UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
RILEY BURDETT, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN REED-ORGANS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 153,l50, dated July 21, 1874; application filed April 30, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RILEY BURDETT, of Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in 1teed-Organs, of which the following is a specification:
This device is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which gives an end view thereof.
The object of my invention is the trilling or shaking of reed organ tones by means of a certain device attached to the keys, and caused to act directly on each reed-tone by means of the players fingers.
A is the foundation-board. B is the socketboard. 0 is the key-frame. D is the key. E F is the triller or shake-valve. G is the arm connecting with the key D, with which to operate the triller F.
In ordinary playing, press the key D down to the usual depth. To make a trill, press far enough down so as to slightly raise the triller F; then shake the key D, so as to rapidly open and shut the triller F, thereby trilling the ton e. To facilitate this operation, the arm G- is attached to the triller F by means of a joint.
My device may also be used to eifect a partial swell, thereby increasing the general resources of the organ, and may operate the swell, to which it is attached, as a triller.
I claim- 1. The triller or shake-valve F, and the arm G pivoted thereto, adapted and combined to operate with the key D, substantially as described.
y 2. The triller or shake F and arm G, in combination with the key D, substantially as shown.
3. The arm G and triller F, combined substantially as described, for the purpose of trilling a reed-tone.
4:. The arm G, in combination with the swell E and triller F, and key D, for the purpose of trilling a reed-tone, all substantially as shown.
