Application filed November 26, 1924. Serial No. 752,476.
To all whom it may concern:
1 Be it known that we, MILTON D. Mnsnaonn and GEORGE M. HAYns, citizens of the-United States, residing, respectively, at Milford and New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clasps for Sanitary Napkins; and we do hereby declare the following, when takenin connection with the accompanying drawings, and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this 1 application, and represent, in-
Fig. 1 a perspective view of a sanitary belt provided with clasps embodying our invention and with a napkin attached.
Fig. 2 a front view of the clasp detached. Fig. 3 a plan view of the same.
10 Fig. 4 a longitudinal, sectional view of'the Fig. 5 a vertical, sectional view, showing a napkin in position.
This invention relates to an improvement in clasps for sanitary napkins. The object of the invention is to provide a clasp by which the ends ofsanitarynapkins or catamenial sacks may be securely attached to belts or garments.
a In carrying out our invention, we employ a rectangular frame, preferably formed from wire, with the ends secured together by welding or otherwise, to form a top bar 10, bottom bar 11 and side bars 12 and 13.
8B Hinged to one of the side bars as 12 is a tongue 14 having its upper and lower edges turned inward and formed with teeth 15.
' The tip 16 of the tongue is outwardly offset and curved so as'to set over theother side bar 13. Hinged to the bar 13 is a locking lever 17, formed with a clearance notch 18 for the tip 16 and the end of the lever is offset from its knuckles, so that, when the 1 lever is turned down over the tip of the 46 tongue, the outer end of the clearance notch will stand adjacent to the shoulder 19 formed by offsetting the tip 16, and so that the finger piece 20 of the lever will lie substantially flat over the outer end of the tongue. The bars 10 and 11 are enclosed by a loop, 21, whichmay be formed by folding and stitching the tabs 22 of a belt 23 of usual construction, or by a strap which is stitched to the tabs 22, or to the lower edge of a corset I or other article of wearing, apparel, The
ing a frame having a top bar and a bottom ends of a sanitary napkin or catamenial sack 24: are held in position and the tongues turned down over them, the tip of the tongue being seated on the side bar 13, and the teeth 15 gripping the ends of the napkin. The lever .17 is then turned over the end of the tongue so as to securely lock it in its closed position. The napkin is thus firmly held in position, may be conveniently adjusted, and is not liable to accidental disengagement, and the metal parts are covered so as not to come in contact with the body I of the wearer.
While we have described the device for use with sanitary napkins, it is obvious that it might be used with diapers, jockey straps, braces, or other devices.
, We claim:.
1. A clasp for sanitary napkins, compris- Y6 bar connected by side bars, a tongue hinged to one of the side bars and having a tip to engage with the other side bar, and a locking lever hinged to the said other side bar and adapted to be turned down over the tip end of the tongue.
2. A clasp for sanitary napkins, comprising a frame having a top bar and a bottom bar connected by side bars, a tongue hinged to one of the side bars and having a tip to engage with the other side bar and formed at its edges withinwardly-projecting teeth, and a locking lever hinged to the said other side bar and adapted to be turned down over the tip end of the tongue.
3. A clasp for sanitary napkins, comprising a frame having a top bar and a bottom bar connected by sidebars, a tongue hinged to one of the side bars and having a tip to engage with the other side bar, and a locking 96 lever hinged to the said other side bar and adapted to be turned down over the tip end of the tongue and formed with a clearance notch for the said tip. 1 4. A clasp for sanitary napkins. compris- 100 ing a frame having a top bar and a bottom bar connected by side bars, a tongue hinged to one of the side bars and having a tip outwardly offset and curved to engage with the other side bar. and a locking lever hinged to the said other side bar and adapted to be turned down over the tip end of the tongue.
5. A clasp for sanitary napkins, comprisi g a rame having a top bar and a bottom bar connected by side bars; a tongue hinged In testimony whereof, we have signed this to one of the side bars and having a tip ontspecific-amen 1n the presence of two subscrib- 1 wardly offset and curved to engage with the mug witnesses.
