Be it known that I, RICHARD B. ll/vanmnmi, a citizen of the United States, residing at Corinth, in the county of Alcorn and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Syringes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improvement in syringes and more particularly syringes utilizing glass pump elements.
An object of the present invention is to provide an improved holder having means for snugly supporting the barrel of the pump and also for securing the usual nipple of such pumps in alignment with the syringe needle without any lateral strains on said nipple and entirely relieving the pump part from the thrust of the needle.
Further objects will more particularly appear in the course of the following detailed description.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.

In accordance with the present invention two or more spaced members 1 are provided, preferably of arcuate cross section bridged at one end and provided at the other end with laterally projecting finger clasps 2 2. The lower or projected end is provided with an orifice 3 and the inner face of the bridge part is provided with a plurality of radially projecting key seats 4 extending from the orifice 3. The members 1 1 are adapted to snugly embrace the barrel 13 of the glass Serial No. 697,547.

The bushing 5 is further provided with a central orifice threaded as' at 8 and the bushing is secured in its position in orifice 3 by pins 7 7 extending through suitT able holes provided in they members 1 1, said pins being adapted to engage over the lugs 6 6, as is well illustrated in Figs. 2, 4, and 5. j The present invention is particularly adapted to be used with my improved needles as disclosed in my pending application, Serial No. 484,248, which consists of a needle proper 14 secured to a body part 9 from which projects a lug l0 exteriorly threaded and provided with a socket seat adapted for slip joint connection with the nipple l2 of the pump. The exterior threads of the needle are adapted to co-mate with the threads 8 of the orifice in the bushing 5.
Any number of lugs 6 6 may be provided or, if preferred, a plurality of bushings may be associated as is illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 where are shown two bushings 5 and 5, the bushings being arranged so that the lugs 6 6 are in opposed relation to the lugs 6 6 of the bushing 5. Such an association of bushings permits a wider range of adjustment, as obviously7 one or more of the exterior bushings may be omitted as desired.
In operation it will be apparent that with the structure thus described the nipple l2 of the glass pump will seat snugly in the socket seat l1 of the needle without any lateral strains thereon, while at the same time the thrust of the needle 14 is transmitted directly through pins 7 7 to the holder members 1 1 and thence to the finger clasps 2 2 so that the glass pump of the device is entirely relieved of any lateral or longitudinal strains, thus reducing the liability of fracturing the glass barrel lto a minimum.
Modifications will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art but within the scope of the present invention as claimed.
