Description
Mar. 3. 1925.
.1. T. HERBERT GOLF TEE MARKER Filed June 16, i924 Patented Mar. 3, 1925.
warren STATES PATENT'OFFICE.
JOSEPH T. HERBERT, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE BRUNT PORCELAIN COMPANY, OF COLUMBUS, 01-110, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
GOLF-TEE IVIARKER.
Application filed June 16, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosnPI-r T. HERBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Golf-Tee Markers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to golf tee markers.
It is the custom at present to indicate the position of the tees on a golf course by means of crude weights usually made of lead or some similar heavy substance which must be continually painted white so that they may be seen from a distance. These markers are merely placed on the ground usually one on each side of the tee and not being secured in position are usually kicked about and therefore do not function as intended.
The primary object of my invention is to overcome these dil'liculties by the provision of a tee marker which is inherently of an easily distinguishable color and is so shaped as to cause rain falling on its upper surface to maintain it free from dirt.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of thischaracter made of porcelain or the like material having a glazed surface to further prevent the lodgement of dust and dirt thereon.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a device of this character having means for securing it in any desired position on the ground.
lVith these and other objects in view, which will become apparent as the description proceeds, my invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafterfully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan View of my improved marker and securing means, and
Serial No. 720,254.
Figure 2 is a vertical central section therethrough.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the views of the drawing. 1 designates the solid cylindrical base portion of my improved marker 2. The upper portion 3 is thicker at the center and its upper surface slopes in an irregular manner indicated at 4 to meet the base 1 in the rounded corner 5.
An aperture 6 is provided centrally of the marker 2 to receive the spike 7 for securing the marker in any desired location and is countersunk at its upper end as at 8 toreceive the head 9 of the spike 7.
The marker 2 is made of porcelain, or the like, of an easily distinguishable color such as white and its outer surface is glazed and therefore smooth which decreases the tendency of dirt and dust to adhere thereto. The peculiar mound like form of the upper surface 4 causes the rain to wash ofl what dirt does collect thereon and thus maintains said surface clean and white.
What is claimed is:
1. A golf marker constructed of earthen wars of an easily distinguishable color glazed on its outer surface, and means passing through an aperture located centrally thereof for securing the same to the ground.
2. A marker of the class described, comprising a cylindrical base portion, a moundlike top portion integral therewith, said portions being constructed of earthenware of an easily distinguishable color glazed on its outer surface, and means for securing said marker in any desired postion on the ground.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOSEPH T. HERBERT.
