CORNER reancn ron TABLES.
Application filed July 1 1 23. Se ial No. 650,846,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODOR ELLIEN- BECKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sawyer, inthe county of Door, State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Corner Brace for Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to 10 which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to corner braces for tables, and has for its object to provide a device ofl this character preferably formed from a single piece of sheet metal, substantially triangular shaped in top plan and provided with recesses for the reception of the inner corner of the table leg, and with flanges adapted to be secured to the adjacent side rails of the table, the upper ends of the flanges being provided with horizontally disposed portions adapted to be secured to the underside of the table top. The brace rigidly holds the table leg, the side rails and the top in relation to each other, and
at the same time braces the corner of the table.
A further object is to provide a table corner brace, which will rigidly hold a table leg, the adjacent ends of the table rails and the table top in relation to each other.
With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawing, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of one corner of a conventional form of table showing the bracket applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a top plan of one end of the table showing a portion of the top broken away to better show the structure.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view through the corner of the table and bracket.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a tabletop, and 2 side rails of the table, which rails are disposed at right angles to each other and have their ends mortised at 3 into the table leg 4. Tables become weak at their corners incident to use, and to obviatethis difiiculty the corner brace 5 is provided, which brace is preferably formed from a single piece of material, such for instance as sheet metal; therefore it will be seen that the brace can be stamped from a single piece of metal or cast if desired. The brace 5 comprises a rectangular shaped body portion 6, which is vertically disposed and extends angularly across the corner of the table. at substantially forty-five degrees to the rails 52 and has its ends provided with flanges 7, which are secured to the rails 2 by means of screws 8. Flange 7 extend above the rectangular shaped portion 6, and are provided with horizontally disposed ears 9, which are secured by means of screws 10 tothe under side of the table top 1; therefore it will be seen that the top and side rails 2 of the table are rigidly secured together in a manner wherebyhthey are braced by engagement with each ot er.
The upper and lower sides of the rectangular shaped portion 6 are provided with horizontally disposed flanges 11, which flanges engage the inner faces of the rails 2, and are provided with right angularly shaped recesses 12, which receive the inner corner 13 of the table leg 4, thereby engaging said leg at spaced points and rigidly holding the same. For further bracing the leg a screw 14 is provided, which extends through the body portion 6 at a right angle and into the leg 4, and which screw when tightened additionally draws the adjacent ends of the rails 2 toward the leg 4; consequently the mortised joints 3 are maintained tight at all times.
From the above it will, be seen that a corner brace is provided for tables, which brace is formed from a single piece of metal and constructed in a manner whereby, when applied to the corner of. a table, the table leg, adjacent ends of the rails of the table, and the table top will be rigidly held together and the leg braced against a tilting action.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is The combination with a table leg, converging table rails secured to adjacent sides of the table leg, a table top disposed .on the rails, of a corner brace, said brace comprising a vertically and angularly disposed flat plate extending across the corneri of the table iiearwardly of the legandhspaced from the corner of said leg,. angula'rly disposed flanges carried by the ends of said plate at right angles to each other said flanges being-secured to the inner sides of the rails, the upper ends of said flanges being provided with horizontally disposed ears secured to the under side of the table top, horizontally disposed flZLHgGSCUIlYlGd bythe 11p-' per and lower edges of the plate and engaging the mner faces of the, rails, the inner
