To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD K. Finnns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in an Infants Union Garment, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to undergarments or nether-clothing, and has special reference to the underwear worn by infants, and small children.

The object of this invention resides in providing a garment of this character which may be conveniently and easily placed upon the child, and which is especially adapted to be worn with the ordinary napkin or diaper without discomfort to the infant. In this connection, I have provided a garment that is so constructed that whenever it becomes necessary to change the napkin the same may be removed and replaced without the ne cessity of removing the undergarment. It will be seen that my garment affords protection to the infant, both as to legs and trunk, and at the same time permits the ready change of napkins without the necessity of disturbing the garment or exposing the entire body of the infant, the garment itself being so formed as to escape soilure. Other objects and advantages will be apparent to persons familiar with this art after an understanding of my invention is had, and for a more specific disclosure of my invention I will now refer to the accompanying drawings that form a part of this specification.

The garment illustrated in Figs. l and 2 of the drawings comprises a combination or union suit consisting of a body portion A for encircling the trunk or torso and tubular separated leg portions 13, B. The body portion A is open at the top, but the upper edges of this body portion are provided with extensions or straps C, C that are adapted to be brought over the shoulders of the Serial No. 645,195.

wearer, and the overlapped edges of the adjacent pairs are buttoned or otherwise removably securedv togethrr in the manner shown at the left of Fig. 1 of the drawings. In the usual form of union suit the upper portions of the inside of the leg patterns are brought together and stitched at the inseam to provide the usual crotch, but with infants and small children where it is desirable to employ a napkin this crotch constructioa becomes quite bulky making the garments uncomfortable and causes irritation to the tender flesh of the infant. With my improved form of garment, I omit the crotch, and, as seen in Fig. l of the drawings, I cut the leg pattern outwardly from the inner seam to provide an inside opening D upon each leg, and I prefer to continue this cut upwardly in both the front and back pattern of the body portion A in an arch form as indicated at E in the drawings. This formation provides for the retaining of legs B to the lower portion of body A by half-tubular necks or webs F, F, and what was formerly the crotch area is now of arch shape and open, so that the napkin may be readily placed upon the infant or other wearer without intervening clothing. In the event the napkin becomes soiled there is less liability of soiling the undergarments, and the soiled napkins may be removed and replaced without removal of the undergarments.

The undergarment shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings is of the front button type and the shoulder straps of the first type are replaced by integral sleeves H, H. The crotch in this structure is omitted and the front and rear of the adjacent portions of the pattern are cut to provide the arch E and the inside openings D in the legs below the same.

It will be understood hat diverse modifications of th precise structure herein illustrated and described may be. made without departing from the principles involved, and I desire it understood thatall such modifications or refinements are fully contemplated as coming within the scope of my invention as expressed in the appended claim.

What I claim is:
