Be it known that I, CARL A. Dmnnnrcns, a citizen of the United States, residin at East Liberty, Pittsburgh, county of gheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Childrens Playground Games, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel and interesting game for children having the novel combination and arrangement of parts disclosed in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of same with the ornamental toy figures detached;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3--3 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section on line 44 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of member 14; and v Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view ofone of the removable play blocks.
Like numerals designate each of the several views.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, I provide a box 1 having a tray top 2 to which are attached suitable decorative or fanciful figures and devices to give the top the ap earance of a childrens'playground. I provide an elongated slotted portion in top 2 in which is positioned a removable center portion of suitable size to provide a channel intervening between this center portion and the main body of the table top. Portion 2 is secured to stub shafts 7, 7 and 8 by means of thumb screws 6, permitting of its removal to obtain access to the intelike parts in rior of box 1.
I rovide a spindle 9 on shaft 7 and a spin le 10 on shaft 8. Spindle 9 has a ooved pulley portion 11 and spindle 10 26 of the (play block. The ends 29 of web 28 are roun ed to facilitate operation of the block which travels in the channel or slot 4 of the tray top 2, the portions 26 and 27 of Gearlti also'is pro- 1 slantlng l which may be utilized if it is desired to 0perate the toy by power instead of manually by the crank handle 24.
Any desired fanciful or decorative toy figures ormanikins may be attached to play.
I provide an extension slot 32 at one end of the elongated elliptical channel 4, and an enlarged aperture 33 into which slot 32 opens, said openings being of suitable size to permit of the insertion of one of the play blocks 26 to start it on or remove it from its course. I also provide a suitable cover removably seated in openings 33 and 32.
Positioned under members 9, 15 and 16 I provide suitable metal washers to reduce friction of these parts when revolving.
In operating t e toy, the cover 34 is removed and blocks are inserted in the opening and moved into the channel 4, the crank 24 being operated, which by means of star wheel 20, gear 18 and gear 15, rotates the spindle 12 and thus operates the belt 13. The hooks 14 extending from belt 13 engage the depending pin of successive play blocks as they are moved into the path of operation of the hooks, thus carrying the play blocks and their decorative figures around the course of channel 4.
For power operation the pulley 25 is belted to a motor or any suitable source of power.
' What I claim is:
1. In an amusement device of the class described, the combination of a box having a continuous slot, a removable center piece forming the inner wall of the slot blocks slidable in said slot, the play blocks having a vertical web extendin through the slot, said web bein curve side edges to permit its ollowing a rounded course, means adapted to operatively ennear its gage the play blocks for operating 'same,
T meansfor driving'the aforesaid play-block ed, a depending pin extending downwardly bloc engaging means and means adapted to permit the insertion or removal of one play block at a time at the will of the user.
2. As a new article of manufacture for use in an amusement device, a play block com rising spaced block members, the said members lying. in different planes, a vertical web extending between said members, said web having itsside edges roundfrom the bottom portion of the play blocks, and a miniature figure carried bythe uppermost block member.
3. As a new article of manufacture for use in an amusement device, a play block comprising spaced block members, the said block members lying in different planes, a
vertical web extending between said members, said web having its side edges rounded, a depending pin extending downwardly ed to engage the respective depe'ndin ins, spindles on which 'said belt is mdui itcd, means for driving one of the, spindles manually or by power and the tray top having an extension slot and an enlarged aperture into which the extension opens said openings being of suitable size to permit of the insertion or removal of any of .the play blocks.
5. In an amusement device of the class described, the combination of a box having a tray top, a continuous slot formed therein,
\play blocks adapted to travel in said slot, said play blocks having a depending pin, a belt having spaced hooks adapted to engage the depending pin, spindles on which said belt is mounted, a gear attached toone of the spindles, a second gear meshin with the first mentioned gear, said secon gear having a series of annularly arranged spaced openings, a starting wheel having slanting teeth adapted to engage in said openings to drive the gear in one direction only, and a shaft on which the crank wheel is mounted, said shaft carrying the crank and pulley for use in operating'the device by manual 'or power means.
