Be it known that l, JAMEs F. Bonrr'r, a citizen ot the United States, residing at Greenwood, inthe county of Letlore and State ot Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful inproven'ients in Tile Rooting; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and nact description ot the invention, suoli as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in tile rooting wherein the tiles are constructed from 'flexible material and has for its object to provide improved securing means Yfor holding the tile in place.

The various features ot' the invention will appear from the detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying sheet of drawings forming part ot' this specification and wherein- Fig. l is a vertical cross-section taken through a section ot root showing the application or' my invention.

Fig. 3 is a bottom perspective view of one of the tile members showing a stiitening member arranged therein; and

Fig. et. is a perspective view showing the improved securing means for holding the tile in place.

In the drawings, numeral l indicates thc supporting boards usually laid over the ratters ot the root. Arranged up and down on the boards l is a plurality of parallel spaced bars 2. Between the bars 2 is laid a section ot rooting 3 the sides thereof being secured to the bars 2 in any suitable manner. Said sections 3 are preferably ot a length to correspond to a tile section though it may be continued as one piece it found desirable; however, by making the sections 3 in short lengths the root is given a more complete appearance as a regular tile root, as will be readily understood. i

The bars 2 and the ends of the root section 3 are covered over by a curved member 4L and said member is preferably braced by means ot an arched member 5 arranged therein and secured thereto in any suitable manner.

After one course of curved members l has been laid, there is positioned over the upper ends of said members a curved saddle member generally indicated by numeral 6, the saddle being secured to the underlying 924. serial no. 638,257.

ln the drawings l have shown the saddle (S as being made up from a. single piece of wire bent into bowed shape and a. lateral extension provided with an opening 7 through which a nail may be driven, but it is to be understood that the saddle can be made in various ways without departing Jfrom the spirit ot the invention, the torni shown being merely an example ot a simple torni oi saddle. The main features of the saddle are that it has terminal hooks at its bowed ends and a lateral hook into which the butt end ot' the tile may be received.

My invention makes possible the. laying oft tile rooting made ot flexible material in such a manner that the rooting will be held iirmly in place, more particularly the curved or cap members 4lwhich extend over the bars 2 and the upstanding ends of the in-- termediate rooting members 3. The saddle securely holds the bottom ends of the cap members in place., and the hook 9 additionally serves to hold the butt end of the said cap member 'from separating from the adjacent member.

What I claim is:

l. As a new article of manufacture, a curved member having upturned hooks at its terminals and provided intermediate its terminals with a laterally directed upturned hook.

2. As a new article ot manufacture, a curved member having upturned hooks at its terminals, and having a `,laterally extending member intermediate its ends provided at its terminal with an inturned hook. i

8. ln a root covering, the combination ot ieXible curved tile members arranged in overlapped relation, means for securing the upper overlapping member in ixed position With respect to the underlying member comprising' a curved saddle disposed between said members and having hooked terminals into which the side edges of the upper member is received, and means for securing the saddle in tixedi position with respect to the underlying tile member.

et. The combination speeilied in claim 3, and a lateral extension secured to said saddle intermediate the ends thereoi` and having an inturned hook at its terminal into which the end edge of the overlying tile is received and held against displacement.

5. In combination, a root sup-port, a plurality o'l bars secured in up and down parallel relation thereon, a flat tile section disposed between said bars, a curve-d tile disposed o-ver a. said bar and the side edges of the fiat member disposed between said bars, a second curved tile disposed over the first like member in overlapped relation, means securing the overlapped end of the tile member comprising a saddle seated over the upper end ot' the underlying-tile member and having hooked termina-ls adjacent the bottom side edges of theV same into which termina-ls the side edges of the overlyingl tile are received, a late-ral extension from said saddle having a. hooked end into which the butt end of said overlapping tile is received, and means for securing` said saddle and extension in place on said bar.
