WATCH-CHAIN HOLDER.

To all whom it may conccwz Be it known that 1'. Gus linoxnn, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Fresno, in the county of Fresno and State f California, have invented certain new and useful Improvem nts in Watch-Chain Holders, of which the folhiwing is a specification.

My invention relates primarily to a. device for supporting the center of a watch chain, and the object thereof is to provide a device which can be permanently mounted upon the watch chain, either fixed or loose. which is adapted to be mounted over one of the buttons of the vest and which can be easily and quickly attached to or detached from its place of use and which cannot become. accidentally displaced.

Other objects and advantages will appear hereinafter and, while 1 have shown and will described the preferred form of my invention, I wish it understood that I do not limit myself to such preferred form but that various changes and adaptations may be made therein without departing from the spirit of my invention In the drawings accompanying and forming a part hereof:

Referring to the drawings, my device comprises a body member 10 which, in this instance, is substantially circular in front elevation, except at the bottom where it tapers downwardly and inwardly a short distance, and in this tapering portion 11 is provided an aperture 12 in which is slidably mounted the chain 13. Formed in the circular portion of body member 10 is a rearwardly opening annular recess 1% of a size suflicient to receive therein a vest button 15, and extending downwardly from the top wall of said recess 1%, parallel with the open edge thereof and at each side of the vertical center thereof, are two flexible securing members 16 and 17 the central portions 18 Renewed May 24, 1924.

of which are curved inwardly, as best shown in Fig. 3, and are adapted to bear against the inner side of the button 15 to prevent accidental displacement. Members 16 and 17have their free ends, in side elevation. flared outwardly to provide a guide for the button 15 when the device is being positioned for use, and in rear elevation, as best shown in Fig. 4, members 16 and 17 are, at a point just below the horizontal center of recess 14, bent inwardly towards each other and then outwardly, the purpose of which will be hereafter explained.

In Figs. 5 and 6 I have shown another form of my device which is similar in all respects to my preferred form with the exception that in lieu of the tapering portion 11 I provide a downwardly depending eyelet 19 through the eye 20 of which the chain may be passed, or a snap ring 21 may be mounted thereon in which the chain may be mounted.

In positioning my device, after the vest has been donned by the wearer in the usual manner and the buttons properly secured, the top edge of the selected button will be inserted between the lower edge of recess 14. and the outwardly flaring ends of members 16 and 17; member 10 will then be pressed downwardly until the button 15 is positioned within recess 1%, it being understood that the resiliency of members 16 and 17 will permit their yielding outwardly suffi ciently to permit button 15 to pass into recess 14. The inwardly bent portions of members 16 and 17 hearing against the inner face of the button and the thread, or other means by which the button is secured to the vest, will pass between the lower narrowed ends of members 16 and 17 and be held positioned thereby against accidental displacement.

Having described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A watch chain holder comprising a body member adapted to be detachably mounted upon the button of a garment to surround the same except the rear thereof: apair of spaced resilient securing members extending downwardly from the top wall of said body member adapted to straddle the button securing means and to bear against the inner side of said button; a downwardly depending ear at the lower end of the body member provided with a transverse aperture therein.

2. A watch chain holder comprising a body member adapted to be detachably mounted upon the button of a garment to surround the same except the rear side thereof; a pair of spaced. resilient securing members extendlng downwardly from the top Wall of said body member at the rear thereof, adapted to straddle the buttonseelevation except at the bottom thereof; av

downwardly and inwardly tapering portion at the bottom of said body member; an aperture through said depending portion transversely thereof; a rearwardly opening annular recess in said body membei'g 'a pair of downwardly extending flexible secnring' members at the open edge of said recess" extending from the top wall thereof to near the bottom wall, and being provided with an inwardly bowed portion intermediate their length and having their free ends flared'outwardly adaptedto straddle the securing means of a garment button and to bear against the rear wall of said button.
