EXTENDIBLE BRACELET.

Be it known that I, LEWIs S. CHILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State a of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extendible Bracelets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates toan improved construction of extendible bracelet, and has for its object to provide in such a bracelet a plurality of links, each having an outer member and an inner member slidable in the outer member, the inner member being hingedly connected to the next adjacent outer member, and a spring acting between the inner and outer members for normally holding the link members in contracted position.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

and operation of extendible bracelets, of advantage to hingedly connect the members of the bracelet together so that the bracelet may readily conform to the shape of the arm of the wearer; also to so mount the members of the bracelet that one will slide within the other and permit the bracelet to be extended whereby the hand of the wearer maybe passed therethrough without disconnecting the ends of the bracelet and also to exert a slight tension on the arm of the wearer to hold it in adjusted position on the arm; and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of my invention by which these advantageous results may be accomplished With reference to the drawings, 10 designates the outer or channel-shaped link which is preferably constructed of sheet stock having a front wall 11, side walls 12. These side walls being preferably grooved or notched to provide a shoulder 18 on which a cover plate, presently described, may rest. This link is also herein shown as being provided with a tongue member 14 extending from the end thereof which is adapted to be folded or rolled into eye-form or loop form to hingedly connect the links together.
As illustrated in Figure 3, I have provided a flat trough-shaped link 15 which has a front wall 16, side walls 17, and one end wall 18, the latter serving as an abutment for one end of the spring 19. The front wall at the opposite end of this link is herein shown as being slotted as at 20 to receive the joint tongue 14 of the channel link.
In order to secure the slide link in its outer or trough link, I have provided a cover plate 21, as best shown in Figure 1, the same being preferably reduced as at 22 on its opposite edges over which edges are rolled or turned the edges 12 of the channel link, whereby when the reduced edges 12 of this link are rolled or folded over on to the reduced edges 22 of the cover plate the back is practically smooth or substantially in the same plane.
This cover plate is also provided with a downwardly extending end wall 23 which serves as a fixed abutment for one end of the spring 19.
In assembling the parts of this bracelet, the channel link is connected to the slide or trough link by bending the tongue 14 of the former through the eye 20 of the latter,
whereby it Will be noted thatthis connection is entirely covered and can not be seen when the links of the bracelet are contracted and can scarcely be observed when the links are in extended position owing to the fact that the tongue is first bent straight rearwardly and subsequently as at 2% over and inwardly forming an eye 25 which permits the required flexibility of the link. Then the spring 19 is inserted and the cover plate positioned with this abutment wall 23 engaging one end of the spring while the Wall 18 of the trough link engages the opposite end of the spring, which spring acting between these Walls normally serves to hold the links in contracted position.
My improved construction of ektendible bracelet is very strong and durable, is handsome and attractive in appearance, is very easily positioned to conform to the shape of the arm and is extendiblc to vary its working length.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An extendible bracelet having a series of channel shaped links, a trouglnshaped link slidable in each channel link having a spring abutment at one end and hingedly connected to the next adjacent channel link, a cover plate for said channc link having an inwardly-projecting abutment, and a spring operating between said two abutments to hold the links normally in contracted position.
2. An extendiblc bracelet having a series of channel shaped links, a trough-shaped link slidable in each channel link and haw ing an inturned end to form a spring abutment, a cover plate attached to the channel link for securing the trough link therein and having a spring abutment, and a connector member for hingedly attaching the trough link to the next adjacent channel link.
3. A11 extendible bracelet having a series of channel shaped links with a bendable connecting tongue at one end, a troughshaped link slidable in each channel link having a spring abutment at one end, and a slot at its opposite end to receive said tongue of the channel link, a cover plate for said channel link having a spring abutment at one end and a spring acting between said abutments to close the links.
