APPAREL GARMENT.
Application filed October 5, 1922. Serial No. 592,413.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, WALDEMAR Kore, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Tm. provement in Apparel Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an apparel garment and more particularly to that type of garment shown and described in my applications, Serial Nos. 491,103, filed August 10, 1921, and 554,521, filed April 18, 1922. This type of garment is one that is made to wear next to the body as a combined under vest, corset and brassiera'the' garment performing the functions of all three of the garments named so that instead of wearing three garments in the use of my improved garment but one may be worn. This garment is preferably made of rela- I tively light weight material which is suficiently yielding to permit the garment to perform its intended functions and Suficiently soft to prevent the garment from injuring the skin. The material of which the garment is constructed is also preferably a washable material so that the garment may be laundered in the usual manner of laundering under garments. While this garment is adapted for general use it is par ticularly serviceable as an under garment to be worn in athletic sports, dancing and other similar exercises where entire freedom of movement of all parts of the body is necessary or desirable and which cannot be obtained in the use of stayed corset garments as commonly constructed. Furthermore, and to this end, the garment is so constructed as to completely cover the body from substantially the bust to the thighs and to support and confine the busts as well as to confine the hips, thighs and abdominal portions of the body f the wearer.
The garment made in accordance with the present invention preferably comprises a bust member which is adapted to extend.
around the body from the front to the back and to be adjustably connected at the back of the wearer, together with a hip, thigh and abdominal member adapted. to extend around the body preferably from the back to the front and to be adjustably connected at the front of the body. The bust member is adapted to support and confine the busts,
and the hip, thigh and abdominal member isadapted to confine and lend support to the underlying portions of the body of the wearer. The garment is so constructed that theupper front portion of the hip, thigh and abdominal member is adapted to overlie the front central portion of the bust member and the overlapping portions of these members at the front thereof are provided with means for maintaining the same in their relative positions. Furthermore, the members of the garment may be connected by suitable shoulder straps.
The garment made in accordance with my present invention will be hereinafter more particularly described in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which,-
Fig. 1 is a perspective View illustrating the use of the garment.
Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the members of the garment in a'substantially flat or spread out position, and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged front elevation of the garment.
Referring to the drawing, it will be seen that the bust member may be made of similarly formed sections 10 and 11 depending from which are the lower front sections 12 and 13. These sections of the bust member are connected along a central line of stitch: ing indicated at 14. The end of the section 10 is fitted with a reinforcing strip 15 extending from which are straps 16 and 17 a reinforcing strip 20 to which there are connected straps or tapes 21 and 22 having connected thereto hooks 23 and 2 1 adapted, respectively, to engage any pair of eyelets 18 and 19 whereby the bust member after being passed around the body may be adjustably connected to position thereon. The lower edges of the bust member are preferably tapered and curved as indicated at 25 and 26, while the upper edges are preferably inclined as indicated at 27 and 28 at the sides, and the central upper edge 29 1s pref-= erably straight and adapted to extend directly across the body in a substantlally horizontal position. The lower edge, preferably at the center thereof, is provided with a strap 30 attached to which there is a hook 31 for a purpose hereinafter described, and the lower front sections 12 and 13 are provided with buttons 32 arid 32' also for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
illustrated the same consists of back sec* tions 33 and 34' connected along a line of stitching 35 and side sections 36 and 37, the former of which is connected to the back section 33 along a line of stitching 38, while the latter is connected to the back section 34 along a line of stitching 39. In the lower edge of this member I also prefer to employ gore sections 40 and 41. The gore section 40 is placed between the sections 33 and 36, while the gore section 41 is placed between the sections 34. and 37. This member also includesfront sections 42 and 43. The front section 42 is connected to the side section 36 along a line of stitching 44, and the front section 43 is connected to the side section 37 along a line of stitching indicated at 45. At the edge of the front section 42 thereis a reinforcing strip 46' in which there is a series of eyelets 47 Similarly at the edge of the front section 43 there is a reinforcing strip 48 in which there is a corresponding series of eyelets 49. This member of the garment may also include top sections indicated at 50 and 51 connected along its lower edge to the upper edges of the sections'forming the lower part of the garment. The upper sections 50 and 51 may be made of the same material as the other sections of this member of the garment, or of any other material, and the section 50 may be connected to the section 10 of the bust member by means of a shoulder strap 52, while similarly the section 51 may be connected to the section 11 of the bust member by a shoulder strap 53. At the lower edge of the hip, thigh and abdominal member and preferably depending from the gore sections 40 and 41, I may employ suitable hose supporters 54 and 55. The lower edges of the side and front sections of this member of the garment may be tapered or cut away as indicated, respectively, at 56 and 57 In the use of the garment, the bust member is passed around the body from the front to the rear and the hook members 23 and 24 caused to engage the eyelets 18 and 19 to adjustably secure this member of the garment in position on the body, and then the hip, thigh and abdominal member is passed in the opposite direction around the body and a lace 58 threaded through the eyelets 47 and 49 in order to adjustably connect the ends of this member and secure the same in position on the body. As hereinbefore stated, the upper front portion of the hip, thigh and abdominal member is adapted to overlie the lower front central portion of the bust member in-order to cause the garment to completely cover the body from the bust to the thighs, and to maintain these overlapping portions of the garment in position the hip, thigh and abdominal member is preferably provided with button holes 59 and 59' adapted to receive the buttons 32 and 32' respectively, it being understood that the button holes in which the buttons are engaged are dependent upon the adthe lace 58 to assist in maintaining these overlapping portions of the garment in position.
I claim as my invention:
