METHOD 0F MAKING LAMINATED STRUCTRFS.

To all whom 'it may concern:
Be "fit known that I, FRANK V. TIsCHEa, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the' county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Methods of Making Laminated Structures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. g
My invention relatesto anew article of manufacture in laminated structures and method of making such an article of manufacture.
It is the object of my invention to provide a lamina-ted structure of wood, leather, or cloth, or any similar substance in comblnation with a glue and coagulant.
It is a further object of my invention to provide a method of manufacture of such articles which will result in a product that is strong, durable, and water resistant, which may be easily practiced, and in which 4the functions of the several elements'employed will not interfere with one another.

Referring to the drawings in detail:
l is a strip of wood. To this-wood is applieda material known as a coagulant which is applied to the surface of the wood, as at 2, and allowed to soak into the wood as indicated in the shaded area 3.
As a coagulant I found a saturated solution of bicromate of potash satisfactory.
I also used a solution of formaldehyde of 20% to 40% strength.'
I do not desire to confine myself to'these specific compounds as compounds having these characteristics other than The ones! specified may be employed.
After applying t e coagulant in liquid form I allow it to dry, depending upon the nature of the coagulant and the nature of the wood, from two minutes to twelve hours, approximately. To determine how long it should dry it is necessary to be sure that-the coagulant thoroughly soaks into the surface of the wood in order to prevent the coagulant from getting on the glue brushl and making the glue insoluble therein.
After the coagulant dries I thenapply a coat of glue 4 thereto and upon the glue mount and veneer strip 5.
In the event that I desire to mount a veneer strip of leather rather than of wood, I apply the leather directly upon the glue as indicated by the leather strip 6 in Fig. '3.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to sey cure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a method of joining articles to one another, ,providing a supporting body which is relatively porous, permitting 'a coagulant to be absorbed and dried thereon and there l in, applying a coating of glue, and applying a second body thereto.
