ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 14, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTUS F. WASMUTI-I, or HUNTINGTON, INDIANA, ASSIGNOB To WASMJUTH-E'NDI- co'rr ooMPANY,A CORPORATION or; INDIANA.
POCKETED TABLE;
' Application filed January 12, 1924. serial Nb. 685,723.
cealed in a cabinet installed in the wall of an apartment, or,-that may be secured to the wallso as to-occupy a minimum of space when folded and thus render the occupied spaceof the extended table available for other purposes.
This object is accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: I V V Fig. 1 is a vertical section of a construction embodying the invention and showing the table in extended'position;
V Fig. 2 is a similar view showingthe table folded into the cabinet; and
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of Fig. 1 partially in section on the line 33 thereof.
The characters appearing in the description refer to parts shown in the drawings and designated thereon by corresponding characters.
The invention comprises a cabinet 1, the front of which has an outwardly swinging frame 2 that is hinged at its lower end to the base 3 of the cabinet. The frame has at its top a hinged extension 1, that, when raised extends to the top 5 of the cabinet so that. the frame and'the extension when in closed position forms a closure for the front of the cabinet.
Upon the inner face of the frame 2 are arranged a pair of vertically disposed guides 6 in which is movably arranged a slide 7.
, At each side of the frame 2 and the corresponding side of the cabinet is provided a link 8 for limiting the outward swinging movement of the'frame. The table top is comprised of inner and outer sections 9 and 10 respectively that are hinged together at their abutting ends as indicated by 11, and the inner section 9 has hinged connection upon its under side with the top of the slide 7. In the upper rear partof the cabinet is fixed a stop 12 against which the rear end of the inner section of the table top bears upwardly when the said section-is in horizontal position and resting upon; the .top of the frame 2 as a fulcrum.
c The outer 'sectionlQ of thetabletop-has secured to its under side a hinged folding, leg 13 for its support, from the floor When the table top is in extended position.
1 As meansto'flconfine the range of movemerit of the table top relative to the swinging frame 2, a stop 1& is fixed upon the nner face of the swinging frame 2, and which obstructs the lowerIcross-piece 15 of the sliding frame. 7 so as to limit its upward movement. The upper cross-piece 16 of the sliding frame is recessed, 'as at 17, so as to bridge the stop and permit the upper crosspiece to reach the top of the swinging frame; The inner section 9 of the table top moves downwardly with the frame? upon the in her face of the frame 2 and is limited in its downwardmovement by stops18 at the re spective sides of the swinging frame2 at the lower end thereof, there being a-rail 19 at eachsid'e of thefsection 9 of thetable top, on the bottomthereof,.that contacts with the respective stopi A block 20is fixed on the bottom of the outer section 10 of the table-top,-and is provided with a catch 21 which engages the leg 18 then folded up against the bottom of said section and secures the same in folded position.
r In utilizing the invention thecabinet is positioned in the wall of an apartment, or
against the wall, and is secured permanently in place with its front exposed to view. 'When the table is positioned for use'the frame 2 is swung to its outward position,
and the inner section 9 of the table top bears upon the upper end thereof with its innermost end bearing upwardly against the stop so that said section is sustained thereby in horizontal position. The outer section 10 of the table top is sustained at its inner end by its hinged connection with the inner section 9, and at its outer end by the leg 13 which rests upon the floor.
The table is disposed of 'into the cabinet 7 by first folding the outer sectionof the top 10 over onto the inner section 9'with the leg 13 folded and secured by the catch 21. The top sections 9 and 10, when thus folded, are turned upon the hinged connection of the inner section with the sliding frame to a plane parallel with that of the frame 2 and then lowereduntil the rails {19 gre'st upon the stops 18. The frame 2 then is swung to its innermost position and the extension isa'swung-upward-ly so that the front of the cabinet is closed by Eth'e it'ame and extension. The sliding frame serves to hold the table top in proper alinement with the V swinging frame 2, andalso limits the upward movement thereof.
What I claim is V 1. In pocketed table, a cabinet; a swinging frame having a extension {at its upper end and {hinged connection at its .lower end at the hottom o f the cabinet; "vertically disposed guides on theinner side of the swinging frame; a vertically frame in ffs'ai'd guides; a table top having outer and inner section's hinged" together, inner section of said top havinghinged connection with the sliding frame; a stop on the swinging frame forfiliiniti'n the 11p- Ward movement of said sliding i rams; a stop in the upper part of said'cab-ine't eooperahle with the upper end of the swing ing frame for sustaining the inner section of the table top in horizontal position; means for limiting the outward movement of the swingingframe; and a folding leg having hinged connection with the outer section of the table top for sustaining said seetio'n v n' th table we is i attained position. v I
I' :a pocketed table, a cabinet having an outwardly swinging front hinged at its bottom; veiticallydisposed guides on, the inner side of said front; :3 vertically sliding fraine {in said guides; a table top ihaving hinged connection with thesliding frame; a stop 'for limiting the upward movement of the sliding frame; stop in cabinet xcooperab'l'ewi'th the upper end of the swinghaving hinged connection with {said frame;
& wn in h b Coops-liabl wi th upper end of the swinging front "for sus-V taining the table whe'nin horizontal poei tion; and means limiting the outward swing of said front.
4:. In a pocketedtable, a cabinet, thetront of which is hinged at lower end and has limited outward swinging movement; a.
, frame slidahly mounted in co'nnecti'on with said front-upon the inner side thereof, havged ing vertical movement; a tabletop hin" 7 to the frame; and a stop in the icabinet'oooperable with the upper end ofthesW-inging front for sustaining the table when in horizontal position. g In testimony whereof I aflix, my in presence of two witnesses. v.
