BECEPTACLS FOR FLAGS.
Application :neri .nay i5,
- improvements in `tiag'pole attachments, and
it pertains more particularly to a receptacle adapted to receive the flag and protect it from the elements when the liag is not in use.
`The primary object of the invention is to provide means for'storing the liag when not in use, said means being constructed so as to receive the flag when the same is' lowered from the raised position on the flag pole.
A further object of the invention is to combine with the aforementioned flag-cow taining means, suitable means for raising and lowering the flag.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in whichv Figure 1 is' a perspective view of a flag pole with the flag-containing receptacle of the present invention in operative relation therewith;
Fig. 2 is aldetail perspective view showing' the receptacle in its open position;
Fig. f5 is a vertical sectional view of the receptacle showing the flag pole in elevation, and taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 4;
Fig. 4 is a transverse s'ectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
.Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 5 designates a flag-pole, and said Hag-pole is suitably secured in position in any desired manner and is provided with a block 6 and the usual flag halyards 7. y
rlhe invention comprises a receptacle 9. and said receptacle 9 comprises a rear wall 10. hinged side walls 11 and 12, and a hinged top wall 13. The hinged side walls 11 and 12 are secured to the rear wall 10, by means of hinges 14 and 15, respectively, and the top wall 13 is hinged to the upper edge of the side wall 11, by means of a hinge 16. The side walls 11 and 12 do not extend throughout the entire length of the rear wall 10, and in order to provide a comisaa seem No. 575,214'.
pletely closed receptacle, ythe said rear wall" 10 is provided with forwardly-extendingrig'id side walls 17, which are connected by Y a front wall 18 forminga lower receptacle 19.
Mounted in the lower receptacle 19, to the rear of the shaft 20, is a shaft 25, and said shaft 25 has mounted thereon two loose pulleys 26 and 27. As best shown in Fig. 4, the halyards 7 pass around thev loose pulleys 26, which form guides for said hal- 'yards, and each of the halyards is attached,
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
l. A device of the character described comprising a receptacle, a rear Wall projecting above said receptacle, side Walls hinged to the rear Wall and adapted to embrace said receptacle, and a top Wall hingedly secured to one of the side Walls and adapted to close said receptacle.
2. A. device of the character described comprising a receptacle, a vertically pro ject-ing rear Wall extending above said receptacle, side Walls hinged to said rear Wall and having their lower ends overlapping the upper edge of said receptacle, and a 'top `wall hingedly secured to oneot' said side n Walls and adapted to maintain the side Walls in closed position with relation to said receptaele.
3.151 device of the character described comprising a receptacle, a rear Wall pro jecting above said receptacle, said rear Wall Lenses@ having a plurality of spaced notches in its upper edge, side Walls hinged to said rear Wall and adapted to embrace said receptacle, a top Wall. hingedly secured. to one of said side Walls7 and Vflanges formed on said top wall and adapted to embrace all of the side walls except the one to which it is attached when in closed position.
4. A device of the character described comprising a receptacle having a rear Wall projecting vertically therefrom, a pair ofi side Walls hii'igedly secured to the side edges of said rear Wall and of a length such thatl their lower ends will embrace the receptacle when the side Walls are in closed position7 and a top Wall hinged to one of said side Walls and having side flanges or a length such that the)T Will embrace all but one of the side Walls when the side Walls and 'the hinged top Wall are in closed position.
