In accordance with the present invention,

The mounting or clasp 12 consists of a piece of sheet metal which is -bent to provide a base portion 13 adapted to' be fastened to the can, and a V.-A
shaped resilient tongue 14 extending from the lower end of the plate 13 and terminat= ing adjacent the upper edge thereof. A -triangular space is thus provided in the clasp adapted for snug reception of a triangular pintle 15 which carries a curved ratchet elasping arm 16, and it will be seenl that whenl the pintle 15 is positioned as shown in Figure 1, the arm 16 will be ldisposed through the openinffs l1 for effectively holding the covers of `tlie can against accidental displacement from the can.
' Thev corners of the pintles are preferably rounded, as at 17, and the clasp ton ue 14 is provided with a longitudinal s otV 18 through which the arm 16 projects, the slot 18 being sufiiciently long to allow the arm 16 to swing downwardly 'out of the openings 11 for permitting the intentional removal of the can closure. As the pintle 15 is of angular form and snugly held by the clasp 12, it is apparent that the arm 16 is resiliently retained in either its locking or unlocked position, while the tongue 14 readily yields for permitting turning of the pin 15 when it is desired to lock or unlock the cover.
