Application led November 'To all/whom z'tmay concern.' "j 'i' gv "'Be it known that JAMES SLBALL, a citizen ofthe United States of America, residing at 457 EichelbergerStreet, in the cityjof St. Louis and State ofl Missouri, has invented certain newand useful Improvements in Validating 'Ticket Punches, ofA which the "following isa specification. p H
v The' object of my invention; is ,tol Idevise a validating ticket [punch to be' used primarily by railroad conductors and auditors. Incheckingover the 'collection' of tickets by railroad conductors by auditors, it becomes highly advantageous in order to prevent misappropriationof tickets that the tickets when punched shall not only be perforated in the conventional way, but shall have printed thereon the date, etc. Myl ticket punch perforates the ticket and prints the name on the ticket simultaneously.
A further object is to devise a ticket punch that will be simple in construction, easily operated, made of few and simple parts that lend themselves readily to multiple production and that will be small in size.
With these and other objects in view, my invention has relation to certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my device.
. The solid line indicates my ticket punch in an open or non-printing position and the dash line indicates my ticket punch in a closed or printing position.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of my device, and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of my device. I have incorporated in my device as many of the features of the standard punch as is compatible with my purpose and structure.
Numeral 4 designates the upper jaw having the handle 5 formed integral therewith and numeral 6 designates the lower jaw having the handle 7 formed integral therewith. The upper jaw 4 and the lower jaw 6 are pivotally secured together by the jaw ivot 8. Neary the end of the lower jaw 6 1s formed the die 9 which may be of any shape in order to make perforations of different contours. Numeral 10 designates a resilient pad which is secured to the lower jaw 6 as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The purose of this pad as will bev discerned later, is to facilitate the printing on the ticket so a, i923; serial'lv.' 672,467.9
ag 91151;' 0 have the type letters impinge through the card` `directly on metal, but on i 'a resilient 'materialrj ,bolt 11, which passes throughy a hole Vnear the .external end-"of the upper jaw v4,tlieftype ydisks-12are secured'. `I have illustrated four .su-ch 'type disks. The" typebolt 11 has the head-13 atone-end andthe bolt`14 in thread- :ed engagementtherewith at the yotherf end. -Two ofthe'type disks12 areposition'edbn 'each sidev of theupper-jaw 4. :On the -pe- By fmeans of the. type ripheryrofthe: type disksf12 are' formed numeral type from Zero to nine both inclusive. yBetween 'each of the 3numerals on each vtype diskisiformed a fragmental radial slot `15. lThe type ydisks 12l are'positioned'in rotational engagement on thetype bolt 11 so that each type disk may be separately rotated `on the type bolt. In order to sheathe the type, on the type disks 12 against dirt and mechanical abuse, two sheaths 16 are secured to the upper jaw 4, one being fastened kon each side of the upper jaw 4. The sheaths are secured to the Vupper-jaw 4 by means of a small bolt 17. The sheaths are arcuated so as to extend partially around the upper and exposed peripheries of the type disks 12. The loose ends ofthe sheaths 16 are bent radially inwardly so as to engage the slots 15 when in normal position.

from passing through or separating from the upper jaw 4.
In order to provide an inking pad for `the type disks l2, I have provided the inking pad 23 which is secured to the end of the -bifurcated arm 24, one portion of which passes yon each side of the upper jaw 4 and the lower jaw 6. The opposite end of the bifurcated arm 24 is rotatively ysecured by the rivet 25 to the links 26. The ends of the links 26are rotatively secured, one to the handle 7 and the other to the handle 5 as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Anl eye 27 is formed integral with `the .handle 7. An
eye 28is likewise Affirmed in bifuiicatd arm 24. A coil spring 29 has its' one end secured in the eye 27 andthe other endV sl cured in the eye 28. `Tlie spring 29v per'- Jforms the dual function of holding de-` vice normally in an open or 'onlprinting position and likewise holding the bifurcated arm 24 and hence theJ inking pd 23 ztginst the ytype disks 1.2 at zilltimesi.l It will he S6611 that Whfl, my puii'fh breiight fr@ :in open to a closed, i. e. t printing te@ rrtri," P50 t' A, fr' d lOris moved ,rerwtr Vouff theptdof theltype disks thy Pad., 10. i This) `Peitilets, th P' ter the Ydie 9A' in order to make hek perforation nu als@ pgr'iitst the type `diskswto impr ticket which is being, operated up th punch iscreled olirri. st'on, the nilig had. 23 ,iS @mme ,1611i forced fr'werdnto excontec'ltwitliithe 15 disksl2, hztving the iiriiritli of the .year
