My invention relates to wall directories for clubs, office buildings. and other institu#l tions requiring a convenient method ofldisone of a plurality of name plates arranged upon its front in alphabetical order, are

The panels of the "directoryff hereinbefore referred to, each .cofnsistfofV oblong rectangular body v9 preferably composed of two sect-ions@a and9"` of difterentlrin'ds of wood, fastened one upon the other as best shown in Figures 6 and 7 of the drawings.

The body of each panel is longitudinally 1 v grooved at its rear side at which it engages with the back of the frame in which they are supported, andl it is vprovided. at its front with a plurality of parallel open-ended and l open-faced, transversely extending pockets 10 to receive the naine plates hereinafter yto be described.

The pockets are divided from each other by transverse partitions 12 which are lon itudinally grooved to provide slideways or the name plates, and the panel has at its lower end. a knob 13 to facilitate its removal from the recess of the frame in which it is normally supported.`

The width of the panels corresponds with thato'f the recesses in the frame, and their length is such that when supported upon ;,per end of the recesses to lift the panels for their removal from the frame as hereinbefore explained.

The name plates 14V which in practice are inserted in the pockets of the panels, are contained in sheaths or envelopes l5 of celluloid or other transparent material which are formed to iitsnugly inside the pockets as best shown in Figure 8.

The envelopes are made of rectangular pieces of the desired material, the longitudinal edge-portions of which are bent upon and in spaced relation to the body portion of the same to form retaining flanges l5a for the name plates which ordinarily are made of strips of heavy paper upon which the names are printed or otherwise afliXed.

The name plates correspond in length with the protective envelopes in which they are enclosed; they lit snugly between the flanges of the envelopes and they are readily inserted or removed from the envelopes by sliding them through the open ends thereof. The envelopes are in like manner, inserted in the pockets of the panels with their flanged sides innermost, and the panels are placed in the recesses of the supporting frame as hereinbefore described.

The partitions between the recesses, and one of the upright marginal portions of the frame at one side of the same, are provided with equidistant holes 16 placed in alinement with the name plates on the panels and adapted -for the insertion of pegs 1T used to indicate the presence or absence of the persons whose names appear on the direetory.

Having thus described my improved wall directory, it will be apparent that any of the name plates comprised therein, are readily changed without disturbing the arrangementl of the others; that the name plates are adequately protected from being soiled by vdust or dirt without the expensive and cumbersome panes of glass. found in other directories of similar type; that the naines can be arranged without removing or adjusting any part of the supporting frame, and that the entire construction is free from locks, hooks or other fastening devices.

The construction of the panels of two different kinds of wood prevents Wa'rpin and the longitudinal ribs at the back thereo engaging with the slotted surface at the back of the recesses in the supporting frame, pros vide for an even contact of the parts and strengthen and lighten the construction.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

2. In a wall directory, the combination with a recessedy frame, of a panel having a longitudinally grooved side engaging with a surface of the recess, and having in its opposite side, a plurality of transverse pockets,
