GEORGE T. FIELDING, O'F STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT, T0 GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY, A CRPORATEON GF .'EIN YQBH.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application led March 1l, 1922.
10 all whom it 01mg/ concern Be it known that I, GEonGn T. FInLDiNo, a citizen of thc United States, residing' at titamtord, in the county of Fairlield, State oit Connectimit, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, ot which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to display devices Yfor use for advertising and selling purposes and has for its object to provide an improved structure and arrangement in a device of this character.
For a consideration of what I believe to be novel and my invention, attention is directed to the accompanying description and the claims appended thereto.
One application oi: my invention is in connection with house wiring devices and particularly outlet boxes wherein one or more box bodies of diiierent dimensions are provided each body being adapted to have any one of a plurality of covers fitted thereon, different covers being adapted tor ditterent wiring members, and I have particularly illustrated my invention in this connection. It will be understood, however, that the invention is not necessarily limited to this particular use but may be used wherever found applicable.
In the drawing the figure is a front elevation oi' a structure embodying my invention.
Referring to the drawing, 5 indicates a post having a base 6 upon which the device stands. It desired base 6 may be screwed to a support, holes 7 being provided in it for this purpose. At the upper end of post 5 is a plate 8 which may carry suitable advertising matter and a lamp 9 for illuminating purposes. Mounted on the top ot post 5 aref three outlet box bodies 10, ll and l2. These may represent all the box bodies required for a certain type of house wiring. They are rigidly mounted in position, body 10 being mounted directly on top post 5 and bodies ll and l2 being carried on the ends of pipes 13 Yfastened in knockout openings in box body 10.
Each box body is adapted to have used with it a number oi different covers each of which is adapted for a diiierent wiring condition. For example one cover may form with the box body a box adapted to receive a snap switch, another cover may form with Serial No, 543,064.
it a bonY adapte-d to receive a plug receptacle and so on, there being z. sufficient number ot different covers tor each body, to meet the requirements ordinarily niet with in wiring. As is well understood, the various devices to be put in the box are in general tasiened to the cover which in turn fastened to the boi; bodv. According to my invention I support adjacent to each bon body, a string comprising one each ot the various covers adaptedl to be used with such body. The string oi" covers is supported one below another on a suitable chain so each is displayed and any one may be iitted to the body with which it is intended to be used. In the drawing the strings of covers are designated 15 and each cover is supported by a short chain i6 attached at a suitable point along a longer chain 17. This readily permits any cover of a string to be fitted to its boi; body so that a prospective customer may by means ot the device pick out a box body and cover to meet his needs.
The device makes an attractive display rack and one of great utility in selling the apparatus for it enables a customer to at once see the complete line of apparatus available and ascertain his needs without the salesman being required to get out separately a large number of pieces to show to the customer. At night the lamp 9 may be burned to display the device, the cord connection for it being indicated at 18.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes I have described the principle oit operation ot my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof, but I desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is only illustrative and that the invention may be carried out by other means.
lli/That I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent orP the United States, is:
l. In a display device tor apparatus comprising a major element and a number of minor elements each ot which is adapted 'for use with the` major element, the combination of a standard, a major element iixed thereon, and a string ci minor elements hung adjacent thereto.
2. In a display device for apparatus comprising a plurality of major elements and a number oi' minor elements appurtenant to each major element and adapted for use therewith, the combination of a standard,
rality of box bodies and a number ocovers appartenant to each box body, the combination of a standard, means supporting the box bodies on the standard, and means orniing` strings of covers, each string being hung adjacent the box body which the covers on it ft.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of March, 1922.
GEO. T. FIELDING.
