SANITARY CLOSET-SEAT COVER.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, ALBERT J. LAHMER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Toronto, in the county of York, a Province of Ontario, Dominion of Canada,

have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Closet-Seat Covers, of which the following is a. specification,

reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to a closet seat cover and one of the objects of my invention is to provide a cover that may be easily and quickly mounted on the seat or upper end of a water closet bowl and automatically removed therefrom when the bowl is flushed by water, the cover being made ,of a perishable material that will be eventually destroyed or disintegrated b the water, without clo ging a sewer or 0t er outlet pipe.

Anotlrer object of this invention is to provide a health protecting cover for a closet seat which may be disposed of'without the user of the cover touching the same, thus reducing to a minimum the s read of disease by contagion. A further object of my invention is to provide a new article of manufacture in the form of a closet seat cover cut, stamped or otherwise produced from tissue paper or other flexible material, the cover being slitted to afl'ord a central portion that may be depressedto provide a drag member which will serve as a bailie, a receptacle, and as a means of Withdrawing the article from. the seat on which it is placed.

The above and other objects are attained by a health protecting device that is inexpensive to manufacture, easy to install. applicable as an advertising medium, and highly eficient for the purposes for which it is intended.

Reference will now be had to the draw; in wherein igure 1 is a plan of one form of a sanitary seat cover, in accordance with my invention;

Reference willfirst be had to Figs. 1 and 2 showing an oval cover 1 having an oval opening 2, said cover conforming in outline to the seat or upper portion 3 of a bowl 4 having a basin or trap 5 adapted to be flushed by water. The cover '1 can be made from tissue paper or any suitable flexible or perishable material. It may be cut and stamped from a paper sheet and in providing the opening 2 the paper sheet is cut or stamped to form a shield or tongue 6 at the front edge of the opening 2,.said shield or tongue being slllJstantially semi-circular and adapted to be bent downwardly from the opening 2 on the dash line 7 shown in Fig. 1, so that the shield or tongue will extend into the opening 8 of the bowl seat 3 and prevent a body sitting on the cover 1 from contacting with the front wall of the seat opening 8.

Suitably attached to the cover 1, at the marginal edges of the opening 2, are the upper ends 9 of a lurality of foldable stirrup or bail shaped straps 10 which are preferably placed at a right angle to each other so that the bottom or straight portions 11 of said straps may cooperate in sup porting a drag member 12 made from the piece of material removed from the opening 2. This drag member is adapted to serve as a bafile or receptacle and may be adhesively connected to the strap and said strap similarly connected to the cover 1, so that said elements are articulated, either when extended as shown in Fig. 2 or when the straps 10 are folded with the drag member 12 is proximity to the cover.

Reference will now be had to Figs. 3 and 4- showing a cover which has integral straps and a drag member. In cutting a sheet of paper to provide the cover 1, said sheet of paper is provided with sets of circumferentially disposed slits 13, 14 and 15 with the slits 13 and '14 connected by radially disposed slits 16, which in turn communicate with the slits 15 at one end of the cover,

while the slits 15 at the opposite end of the cover communicate with a semi-circular slit 17 providing the shield or tongue 6. From the .foregoing it will be observed that after the cover is placed on the scat it need not be handled and since the flesh is prevented from contacting with the closet seat there is no danger of a contagious disease spreading from one person to another. It is thought that other advantages will be obvious without further description, and while in the drawing there are illustrated the referred embodiments of my inventio-n, it is to be understood that the construction may be varied as to size, sha c and material, without departing from he appended claims.

What I claim is 1. As a new article of manufacture, a closet seat cover made of a single piece of material out to provide concentric slits affording a. plurality of extensible straps and a drag member which may be depressed and supported by said straps at such points as to sustain a load on said drag member, said straps by virtue of said slits being tearable intermediate the ends thereof to part when the load becomes too great.

2. A. new article of manufacture as called for in claim 1, wherein the concentric slits melt radial slits and a semi-circular slit, said semi-circular slit affording a shield between the upper ends of two of said straps.
