NEEDLE-THEEADING DEVICE.

To all whom t may concern.
Be it known that I, HERMAN TRZECIAK, a
citizen of Poland, residing at Wakpala, in
the county of Corson and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in ANeeolle-Threading v'Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in needle threading devices.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device' which will successfully thread hand or sewing machine needles.
A. further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned type 4which is of exceedingly simple construction and one that maybe manufactured at a very nominal cost.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description. y
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, V Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the needle threading device embodying this invention and showing the needle carrying arm moved out of transverse alinement with the thread carrying arms,
Figure Qis a similar view to Fig. l and shows the needle in position on the needle carrying arm and the thread in position on the pair of thread carrying arms,
Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the threading device with oneof the thread carrying arms broken away for showing the relativeposition of the needle carrying arm in respect to the thread carrying arms when the former is moved into a position in readiness for having the needle removed therefrom for threading the same,
Figure 4 is a top plan view of the threading device with the needle and thread in position upon their respective arms and with all of the elements in position for permitting the needle to be removed from its supporting arm for threading the same,
Figure 5 is a fragmentary end elevational view with one of the thread carrying arms broken away and with the needle removed from its supporting arm for indicating the position of the thread and the element which draws the same through the needle eye,
Fioure 6 is an elevational view of the needibeJ with the thread looped and being drawn through the eye, and
Figure 7 is an elevational View of the needle with the thread completely drawn through the eye so that only one strand of the same extends through said eye. i
In the drawing, wherein for vthe purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of this invention, the numeral 5 designates the pair o f thread carrying arms which are of substantially rectangular formation at their inner or linger grasping ends 6 and taper forwardly to their operating ends 7. The operating ends 7 of these thread carrying arms 5 are each provided with an upstanding lug 8 which is formed at substantial-ly right angles to the longitudinal axis of the said arm. By inspecting Fig. 4, it will be seen that one of these arms is provided at its inner or linger grasping end 6 with a laterally extending flange 9 which is adapted to overlap the upper edge of the second thread carrying arm 5 when the same are in transverse alinement. This laterally extending flange 9 is provided with a depending ear 10 which is adaptedgto engage the outer side face of the second thread carrying arm 5 when the, said arms are in the position shown in Figs; 1 to 4 inclusive or with thesaid arms in transverse alinement.
Pivotally connected to the thread carrying arms 5, as at 11, is a needle carrying arm 12 which is of substantially rectangular formation at its inner end 13 and has its ylower edge beveled, as at 14 for providing a narrow or sharpened operating end 15 which is provided with a downwardly curved portion 16'.' The inner end 13 of this needle carrying Varm is provided with a laterally extending flange 17 which is adapted to engage the lower edge of the thread carrying arm 5 which is provided with the flange 9, when all of the arms are moved into transverse alinement, as shown in Figs. 3 to 5 inclusive.
It will be seen by inspecting Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, that the thread carrying arms 5 and needle carrying arm 12 are of substantially equal length and that the downwardly curved end portion 16 of the needle carrying arm will be sandwiched between the upstanding lugs 8 carried by the thread carrying arms 5 when all of the said arms ywith respect to the thread carrying arms 5. The needle N is then positioned upon the operating end 15 of the needlecarrying arm with the downwardly curved portion 16 inserted through the eye of the needle.
f yWith the needle and its carrying arm 12 still in their said positions, the thread T is laid over the operating ends 7 of the thread carrying arms 5 and allowed to depend :downwardly from the kouter sides of the same, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The needle carrying arm 12 is then pivoted to bring the same into transverse a-linement with the thread carrying arms 5, as indicated in Fig. 3. It will then be seen that the thread T is clamped betweenthe spaced ends 7 of the arms 5 and the downwardly curved end 16 of the needle carrying 'arm 12. IVith the various elements in these positions, the needle is then moved off ofthe curved end 16 of the arm 12 and this downwardly curved end 16 will draw the thread T through the eye of the needle N, inloop formation, asillustrated in Fig. 5. The thread may then be removed from the hooked end 16 and the needle N and thread T will have Y illustrated in Fig. 7.

The depending ear 10 formed in the laterally extending flange 9 engages the outer face of the opposite thread carrying arm 5 for the purpose of frictionally engaging the same to retain the arms 5 in their transverse alinement.
It is to be understood that the form of this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. In a needle threading device, a series of arms pivotally connected together intermediate their ends, two of said arms having upstanding lugs carried by their adjacent ends and the third arm having a downwardly directed curved end adapted to be moved into transverse alinement with the said upstanding lugs.
2.` In a needle threading device, a pair of pivotally connected arms having upstanding lugs at their adjacent ends adapted for supporting a piece of thread placed inwardly of said upstanding lugs and an arm pivotally positioned between the pair of arms having a downwardly curved end that is adapted to be inserted through the eye of a needle and moved into transverse alinement with the upstanding lugs so that when the needle iswithdrawn from its supporting arm the thread will be drawn through the eye of the same.
