To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, PHILLIP SHERMAN. a citizen of Poland, and a resident of Toledo, county of Lucas, and State of Ohio,
termined line extending forward from the' have made an Invention Appertaining to Headlight Bulbs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to an electric light bulbconstruction particularly intended for use in head lights, and has for its object, the provision of a non-glare bulb ofthis charac ter which will direct the rays therefrom forward and downward, but not above a predebulb, thereby admirably adapting it for use in the head lights of automobiles, street cars and the like.
The invention is fully described in the following specification, and while in its broader aspect it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, a preferred embodiment 7 thereof is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates an electric light bulb of the spherical form customarily. used in head lights, although the feature of the bulb. embodying the invention is not restricted to use in connection with a bulb of any particular shape. The top portion of the bulb is provided at its front end with a forward extension 2 in the form of a visor which has its top in the present instance, extending forward on a plane with the top edge of the bulb at its point of largest diameter and has its sides extending down in substantially the form of half cylinder with such sides projectin at their forward ends beyond the forwar end of a bulb and curving outward, down and rearward from the top edge of the visor to the lower rearwardly extending edges of the visor sides.
The visor 2 has its under side formed by a downwardly and rearwardly inclined wall 3 which preferably extends from near the.
point of the visor to a point a short distance above the axial center line of the bulb. The wall 3 is transversely dished or inwardly curved and cooperates with the visor extension to form a hollow extension on the bulb in communication with the interior thereof. The visor 2 and top of the bulb is painted or otherwise suitably treated to render it opaque or semi-opaque so as to prevent or partially prevent the passage of ra s .:of light therethrough, as indicated by t e upper shaded part of the bulb.
The bulb is preferably provided at the center of its outer end or in axial line with the filament with an opaque portion 5, which i preferably of circular form and disposed in position so that a person standing directly in front of the bulb with his eyes in substantially the line of the opaque" portion 5 and filament 4 willnot be blinded. by the glare or brightness of the filament when lighted. It is evident thatrthe shape of the bulb may be varied as desired and that the height of the visor 2 above the axial center line .of the bulb and its extension forward from the bulb may be gauged by the requirements of use to which the bulbs may be put.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
1. An electric light bulb having an integral opaque visor extension on its top portion. I 2. An electric light bulb having an integral hollow opaque visor extension on its front top portion.
3. An electric light bulb having an integral hollow o aque visor extension on the top front portion thereof, with the under side of the extension inclined downward and rearwardly.
4. An electric light bulb having an integral hollow opaque visor extension on the to front portion thereof, with the under si e ofthe extension inclined downwardly and rearwardly and bein transparent to permit the rays of light om the bulb to pass forward therethrough.

An electric light bulb having an integral forwardly extending visor portion at forming an integral extension of the other the top portion of its front end, the visor and the underside of the visor being transportion and top of the bulb being opaque.
