UNITED STATES BENJAMIN LEROY GUNN, or SALT LAKE oITY,;o'rAH.
' COVER. .HOIiDEIR FOR INFANTS. I
Application filedMarch 7, 1923. Serial No. 623,552.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, BENJAMIN LE ROY GUNN, av citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements ina Cover Holder for Infants, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to novel means for holding the covers over sleeping children and to prevent the kicking or the throwing off of the covers by the sleeping child and the primary object of the invention is to,
provide an open jacket or support to which can be pinned the blankets or covers, thereby permitting the blankets to be held over the child at all times.
A further object of the invention is to provide a jacket or support, ,which is adapted to go around the shoulders of a child, and which support loops for slidably receiving large safety pins which are adapted to receive the covers, the loops permitting the sliding of the pins so that when the child turns from side to side, the covers will remain stationary and over the child.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel blanket holder for infants embodying a pair of relatively short shoulder straps and an annular band connected to the straps and arranged to go directly under the arms of the child, the straps and the band carrying loops for receiving the safety pins which are adapted to be attached to the blankets or covers.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a novel blanket holder for babies. which will be durable and eflicient in use, one which will be simple and easy to manufacture and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which drawings:
Figure 1 is a detail perspective view of the improved cover or blanket holder.
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail section through a portion of the holder taken on the line 22 of Figure 1. t
Figure 3 is a fragmentary front elevation of a modified form of the cover holder.
Figure 4 is a detail section through the modified form of the holder taken on line. l4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views the letter A generally indi: cates the improved blanket or cover holder which consists of a pairof shoulder straps Sand 6. These straps 5 and 6 canbe formed of any desired material, such aselastic or the like and the lower end sof the straps can have sewed or otherwise secured thereto a chest band 7, the terminals of which can be connected at the front,by means of a suitable buckle or the like 8.
As clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings the lower ends of the straps 5 and 6 at the front of the cover holder will be firmly heldover the child and be prevented from being kicked or thrown off by the child. In view of the fact that the loops 10 have a width considerably less than the length of the safety pins 11, the sliding of these safety pins are permitted back and forth, which will permit the adjustment of the covers during the turning of the child in the bed.
If so desired flexible loops 12 can be sewed to the bands 5 and 6 at a point above the band 7 and these loops can also slidably support safety pins if so desired, so as to permit the pinning of the blankets around the neck of the sleeping child. It has been found however that the safety pins 11 will be disposed near enough to the neck of the baby to insure the falling of the covers around and over the shoulders and neck.
In Figures 8 and 4 of the drawings is shown a slightly modified form of the invention and in this form, it can be seen that the straps designated by the reference character 15 in this form are extended below the chest band 16 and that the extended portions of the shoulder straps 15 are folded back upon themselves to provideloops 17, which of course support the safety pins 18.
The jacket is used in the same manner in this form as in the form illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings.
Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention.
What I claim as new is 1. A device for holding covers over sleeping children comprising a jacket arranged to engage the shoulders of a child including a pair of relatively short shoulder straps, a chest band secured to the lower ends of the straps and arranged to engage under the arm pits of a child, and safety pin supporting loops carried by the shoulder straps and band.
2. A device for holding covers over sleeping children comprising a pair of shoulder straps, a chest band secured to the lower ends of the straps and arranged to engage directly under the arm pits of a child, the
straps having their lower ends folded back to provide loops, safety pins slidably carried by the loops and safety pin supporting loops secured to the straps at a point above said band.
3. A device for holding covers over sleeping children comprising an adjustable chest strap, means for holding the chest strap in position on a child, and means carried by the front portion of the chest strap for engaging a blanket to hold the same in position over the child, the rear portion of the chest strap being left plain, so as to insure the easy resting of the child.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
