E. L. MUBRIS.
. Toy Buzzes. 4 N0.149,596, Patented April 14, 1874.
WITNESSES. INVENTOR.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD L. MORRIS, OF BOSTON, MASSAOHUBETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOY BUZZES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,596, dated April 14, 1874; application filed March 19, 1874.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD L. Monms, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain Improved Toy; and that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawing.
lmproved toy is illustrated, Figure 1 being a view of the same 5 and Figs. 2 and 3, other forms of making the same toy.
The ribs A A are made of any suitable material, as, for instance, tin bent into circular, oval, or elliptical shape, and having surfaces of sufficient brightness to reflect the light which strikes them when in revolution around the common center B, to which they are attached. A doubled string, 0, is attached to the toy at the common center B by means of rin s 100 s or holes B and acorres ondin 7 7 7 a string is attached in the same manner at the opposite side of the toy; or a continuous doubled string is extended entirely through the toy around the common center B. Taking the opposite ends of the doubled strings or string 0 0, one in each hand, and alternately twisting and untwisting them, a rapid rotary movement can be given to the ribs A A, so that, reflecting the light from all points in the line of their revolution in quick succession, they produce the appearance of a transparent film, spherical, oval, or elliptical, according to the curvature of the ribs A A.
By coloring the ribs wholly or in part, or forming them of substances having naturally different colors, the beautiful effect, when in revolution, may be much heightened.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is y A whirling toy constructed of two or more semicircular, oval, or elliptical ribs, A, having bright surfaces, attached to a common center, and provided with a string or strings, substantially as and for the purpose described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 26th day of November, 1873.
I EDWARD L. MORRIS,
Witnesses L. A. WooD, N. C. LOMBARD.
