HUGO ADERER, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO 8'. F. JELENKO & 00., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A FIRM COMPOSED F JESSE F. JELENKO AND HUGO ADERER.
DENTAL CLASP.
Application filed April 24, 1923. Serial No. 634,365.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGO ADERER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at No. 82 South Parkway, East Orange,
in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the construction 19 of dental clasps.
An object of my invention is the construc tion of a clasp in which the connection be tween the anchoring member or tail-piece of the clasp and the tooth clasping member,
hand or fingers of the clasp allows the position of the fingers to be raised or lowered without changing the position of the tailpiece, and also allows the fingers to turn on the tail-piece as a pivot.
A further object is the construction of a clasp which has a plurality of means for adjusting it vertically on a tooth and which also has means for relieving the stress of the band or fingers on the tooth.
A still further object is the construction of a clasp constituting a flexible connection between a tooth and a plate.
With these and further objects in view, one embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view;
Figure 2 is a side elevation;
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a section on line 4.-4 of Figure 2; I
Figure 5 is a perspective of a part of the tail-piece;
Figure 6 is a detail view partly in section illustrating the manner in which the clasp may be used with a. plate.
My clasp may be made of any suitable material such as gold clasp metal, and comprises a band 1 and al tail-piece 2. Theband is slit at 3 to produce fingers 4 which are duplicates. This construction of the fingers enables them to be adjusted on the tooth where desired in order to, obtain a secure hold and to prevent injury of the tooth. It will be apparent that with any suitable instrument, such as are well known to dentists, the width between the fingers may be decreased or increased. The band may have as a part thereof the usual cusp 5. One end of the tail piece may be suitably constructed for the purpose of holding it firmly in the plate, as by corrugating it as shown at 6.
My novel means of connecting the band and the tail-piece will now be described and comprises a socket 7 made integral with or soldered to the band 1. This socket is substantially semicircular in crosssection to receive the end 8 of the tail-piece also semicircular in cross-section, which end extends at an angle to the length of the tail-piece and fits loosely in the socket to permit some turning movement of the band. The top part 8 of the tail-piece is turned down at 9 to prevent it from becoming separated from the band. When the band is raised, the end of the tail-piece will fit into a notch or depression 10 in the upper edge of the socket.
In Figure 6 the clasp is shown as it may be used with a plate 11. The clasp hakving the anchoring member embedded in the plate is attached to a natural tooth 12. Artificial teeth 13 are shown as affixed to the plate.
It will be evident that the position of the band on the tooth may be varied by moving the hand up and down on the end 8 of the tail-piece. The stress or tension of the band on the tooth will be relieved by means of the construction which permits pivotal movement of the band with the end of the tailpiece.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A dental clasp comprising a band and a tail-piece, a connection between said band and said tail-piece, said connection comprising a socket on said band, said socket being semicircular in cross-section and said socket having the end of the tail-piece inserted therein, said tail-piece being semicircular in cross-section.
2. A dental clasp comprising a band and a tail-piece, and it connection between said band and said tail-piece, said connection comprising a socket on said band, said socket being semicircular in cross-section and having it notch in the upper edge thereof, and said socket having the end of the tail-piece inserted therein, said tail-piece being semicircular in cross-section and said end being adapted to fit into the notch in the upper edge of said socket when the band is raised on the end of said tail-piece.
In testimony whereof I ztflix my signature.
HUGO ADERER.
