Description

May 6 1924.
G. A. MADDOX BOTTLE CLOSURE AND CAP RSMOVBR Filed July 9, 1923 Patented May 6, 1924.
UNITED STATES GUSTAVUS A. MADDOX, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
BOTTLE CLOSURE AND CAP REMOVER.
Application .filed July 9,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUsTAvUs A. MADDOX,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have 5 invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle Closures and Cap Removers,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bottle closures and cap removers and has for its object to provide a cheap, simple and efucient device by means of which the paper caps generally used in milk bottles can be readily removed and th bottle closed to prevent dust or dirt from coming into coutact with the contents, or the said contents being spilled should the bottle be accidently upset.
The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specifications and pointed out in detail in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing,-
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a milk bottle having my invention applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of the upper portion of the bottle showing the position of the closure therein.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of Figure 1.
Figure 4: is a detail plan view of the closure and cap remover.
Figure 5 is an edge view of Figure l.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates a milk bottle having an annular shoulder 2 in the mouth thereof on which the usual paper cap (not shown) rests. The said cap being placed therein after the bottle has been filled and is held therein by friction against the inwardly tapering wall 3 above the shoulder 2. The said paper cap can be removed from the bottle by placing 1923. Serial No. 650,487.
the pointed end 4 of the downwardly-projecting prong 5 between the wall 3 and the edge of the said paper cap and the latter lifted from the bottle. When the desired amount of the contents of the bottle has been used. the bottle is closed by forcing the metal disk 6 down in the bottle mouth until it rests on the shoulder 2 with the spring clamping piece 7 clamping the outer surface of the bottle below the horizontal plane of the disk 6. The said clamping piece 7 is integral with the downwardly-projecting prong 5 and is riveted to the disk 6 at 8.
lVhen the disk 6 is in position in the bottle mouth it will prevent dirt anddust from coming into contact with the contents of the bottle, and will also prevent the contents being spilled should the bottle be accidently overturned. The said disk 6 is removed from the bottle by lifting the lower end of the clamping piece 7, and can be used indefinitely.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A bottle capcomprising, a disc having a free and unobstructed periphery, a resilient clamping means on one side of said disc clamping the lip of a bottle between said clamping means and the adjacentedge of said disc at a pointof said lip below the plane of said disc when in position.
2. A bottle cap and opener comprising a disc having a free and unobstructed periphery, a resilient clamping means on one side of said disc clamping the lip of a bottle between said clamping means and the adjacent edge of said'disc at a point of said lip below the plane of said disc when in position in combination with an attached de-capper consisting of a downwardly projecting member. with an outwardly projecting point.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
GrUSTAVUS A. MADDOX.
