UNITED STATES; PATENT OFFICE.
MARY JANE AIKENEEAID DAVY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y. msrnnnn.
Application filed October 17, 1922.- Serial No. 585,150.
, To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MARY JANE AIKEN- HEAD DAVY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York cit in the county of New York and State of N hw York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to an improvement in fasteners.
Theobject of the present invention is to provide a device for confining and holding the Shoulder strap or strapsof lingerie, there-' by avoiding the'annoyance so frequently experienced of these straps andribbons slipping out of place and over the Wearers shoulder. i
In the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 shows the fastener applied on the under side of the shoulder seam of a shirtwaist.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view through the lefthand shoulder enlarged, showing the device unclasped;
Fi .3 is a pers ective-.view of the fastener.
Re erring to igs. 1, 2 and 3, the numeral 1 represents a strip of tape or ribbon of. suficient length so that it can be doubled over or folded in the middle 2 to form the detachable strap 3.
The portion 1 is adapted to be stitched on the under side of the shoulder seam 4 by stitches 5 or otherwise throughout its length, and to the bend 2. Each portion 1 and 3 has sections of a snap or other'type of fastener 6 for fastening the parts together after passing it beneath the shoulder-straps or ribbons 7 as viewed in Fig. 2. A'tab 8 at the end, conveniently made by folding the end of the strap back and securing it-under the fastener, affords a convenient means of finger to sten or unfasten it.
The advantage folding in the middle is to insure having the sections of the fastening come together when the shoulder straps are fastened in place.
' By this little fastening,
provided for easy attachment to the shoulder of a shirtwaist or showing in the and keeps the neck absolutely in the thumb and 'of the double strip :ind
a simple, inexpendress, thus saving the wearer the anno ance hltherto mentioned, such as lingerie ri bons slippingover the wearers shoulders, or, for
that matter, the annoyance of the straps opening of the neck by rea son of the waist tending to drop off at the shoulder. Still another advantage of the device is that with large necks and sleeves with practically no well-defined arm-hole,
the waist itself is liable to slip to either side, away oil the shoulder at times, and my improved device effectually prevents this by holding the shoulder-seam to the waist, 1n the proper position with-the neck in the proper place. This would "be a desirable function of the device even if there were no lingerie ribbons to falldown. It greatly improves the setof the neck of the gown,
lace.
' do my invention has been s own and described as adapted to ladies -Waists and shirt-waists, it is obvious that it is applicable to blouses, dresses and robesfit being the purpose to hold the ribbons and the shoulder of the garment loosely together, the action being reciprocal, that is to say the shoulder of the garment holding the ribbons in place, and the ribbons in turn holding the shoulder of the'garrnent in place, and by so doing keeping the ribbons covered and conceal d.
- I claim: A,
The combination with a garment having a shoulder portion, of a fastening including a stri of flexible material folded in the middle to orm two members, each of said members havin fastening means at substantially the same. istance from the fold, wherebythey will always register, one member adapted to be stitched or fastened to the under sideof the shoulder portion throughout its length" from the fold to the fastener, the,free- Td of the fastening capable of being looped neath a strap on the. shoulder tened to the other member fixed to the shoulder portion for holding the shoulder strap in osition; j Y I n testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
. 'MARY JANE AIKENHEAD DAVY.
