Description

I April 8 1924. 489,681-
- c. J. WELLS Lem STEAMING AIPPARATUS Filed Jun@` 17. 1922 ATTORNEYS Patented Apr. 8, 1924.
En STATES PATENT CFFICE.
CLOTH-STEAMING APPARATUS.
Application led .Tune 17, 1922. Serial No. 569,075.
To all 'whom t may concern: i
B e it known that I, CHARLES J. WELLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Battle Creek, county of Calhoun, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cloth-Steaming Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cloth steaming apparatus.
Thev main object of this invention is to provide an improved clo-th steaming or treating apparatus which is very effective and, atthe same time, is portable and adapt-- ed tobe used over a burner or stove for generating the steam.
A further object is to produce an improved device for steaming or renovating velvet which is very eilicient for the purpose.
Further objects, and objects pertaining to details and economies of construction and operation will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specication. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claim.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of the invention is clearly illustrated in the. accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:
Fig. I is. a perspective view of my improved cloth steaming apparatus, a portion of the covering for the steaming head being broken away.
Fig. II is a vertical section on a line corresponding to line 2 2 of Fig. I, taken iooking inthe direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section line.
In the drawing similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts in both views.
Referring to the drawing I provide a receptacleV l preferably cylindrical in form and adapted to be placed upon a burner, such as a gas burner or the like, for generating steam. The receptacle is provided with a covering 2 having a fiat conduit 3 opening thereto. On this conduit is a head 4 having a cylindrically curved foraminated face 5. The head is preferably covered by fabric 6. A filling closure 7 is provided for convenience. The float 8 indicates the water lever, this float being supported by the guide tube 9 within the receptacle and the guide 10 on the side of the conduit 3.
With the parts thus arranged I provide a steaming apparatus: which is well adapted for the treatmentof velvet, although desirable. for use in steaming various kinds of cloth or fabrics. The device is especially designed for the use of dressmakers, tailors and lthe like where an inexpensive equipment is desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is: K
In a cloth steaming apparatus, the combination of a portable closed receptacle adapted to be placed upon a burner or the like,` for generating steam, a flat conduit on the top of said receptacle communicating therewith, said conduit beingV of a width approximating the diameter of the receptacle, an elongated head mounted on said conduit and having a cylindrically curved foraminated face, and a fabric covering for said head. Y
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
CHARLES J. WELLS.
