To all whom t may concern Be it known that l, Geenen Plinon'rr, a citizen oi"- the United States, and a resident of Edwards, in the county of St. Lawrence and State oi New York, have invent-ed a nevv and improved Tag, of which the folloivinq is a lull, clear, and exact'description.

This invention relates to improvements in tags, p:,uticularl;T to a tagl which is adapted to be removably secured to a phonograph disc record and nass into the hands of the ultimate purchaser with the record, said tag having displayed thereupon certain data and information which Will be of interest and value to the purchaser of the record.

A further object is to provide a tag oi this character, which can be iirmlg7 secured to the record, and yet which can be readily removed for the purpose ci demonstrating the record before sale. y

A still further object is to provide a tag of this character, which after its removal. from the record may be placed'in a loose leaf binder, these tags serving as an indes: to the records to which they were originally attached.

Still another object is to provide a device of the character stated, which will be simple and practical in construction, neat andy attractive in appearance, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.

Referring in detail to the drawings, l have used the reference numeral'l to designate a conventional disc record for phonogranhs. provided with the usual post hole El at its center. Mv improved tag, designated b v the reference numeral is provided with a oentval transverse told line so that the tag* includes a pair of naps 4C located upon opposite sides of the record and united at the edge ot the record. One oi these iiaps is provided with an eyelet 5 adapted to register with the 'central post hole 2 and the other flap carries a paner clip or fastener 6 adapted to be passed through the central opening in the record and bent over upon the opposite iiap oic the tag. Y

The envelet 5 is provided with the View of resisting possible Wear upon the tag caused bv the bending oi the fastener 6 upon the iiap 4. l have shown a conventional tvpe of paper fastener, known as the McGill fastenenI including,F a pair oi bendable tongues, one of which. is passed through the nest hole and overlies the onnosite flap ofthe tag, and the other of which, is bent unen the inner face of the iiap bvivhich the fastener is carried and lies between this dan and the record` as seen most clearly in Figure 2. llt will be obvious, however, that other fastening devices might be substituted for the particular fastener shown.

The tags 3 mavhave displayed thereon the Words of the subject or the score, or both desired. Thev mav also have any historv or description, or advertisement disnlajved thereupon. For the purpose of aiding musicians or students of music, l prefer to nrint the Words of vocal subjects noon the tags, thus suggestingzy to the ear a true and correct understanding of the subiect, or in the case -of instrumental records, to sunplv the printed score upon the tag which will enable a musician to easilv interpret and follow the phonograph with his own instru ment.

When the tag has been detached from the record, series of registering nerforations 7 in the edges of the flaps i facilitate the ready mounting of the tags in a conventional loose leaf binder. such as 8, The perforations 7 are adapted to receive the posts or' rings 9 of the binder and the tags when thus bound form a convenient index to a collection of records.

Although I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention. various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the partsdescribed, or in the indicia displayed upon the tags Without departing from the invention, and hence l'. do not Wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider myself at liberty to niake such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

l. The combination With a disc record, of a tag having two flaps straddling the record the iiaps extending beyond the port-hole thereof and provided with openings adjacent their ends registering with each other and With the said port hole, and means passing through the idaps and the post hole or the record and detachably securing the tag to the record, said tag having produced thereon the 'subject matter of the record, substantially as and tor the purpose set forth.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a tag having a pair of fiaps adapted to straddle a phonograph disk record, said tag being adapted to have indicia relating to a particular record produced thereon and said flaps having registering openings along one lateral edge of the tag, for the purpose described.

3. A tag of the class described, including a pair of iiaps adapted to straddle a disc phonograph record, and rneans adapted to be passed through the central post hole of a record for detachably connecting the aps, said ineans including a bendable device secured to one Hap adapted to be passed through the post hole and the other flap and bent-over the face of the other flap, said maar@ last mentioned iap including an eyelet receiving said bendable device.

4:. rlhe combination with a disc record, of a tag having two flaps straddling the record and provided adjacent their ends with openings registering with each other and with the central post hole of the record, and means for detachably securing the tag to the record, said means consisting of a pair of bondable tongues, one or Which lies on the inner race of the flap by which the fastener is carried and the other extends through the post hole of the record and Vlies on the outer face of the other Hap.

5. As a new article of inanufacturda tag having a pair of flaps adapted to rstraddle a phonograph disk record and to extend inwardly from the peripheral edge of the disk record beyond the post receiving opening in the latter, each of said iaps having in its free end portion an opening adapted to register with the post receiving opening of the record and with the opening in the end portion of the other flap when said tiaps are in straddling relation Yto the record, said openings being adapted to receive a -fastening device for releasably securing the tag to the disk record, each of said flaps being adapted to have indicia relating to the Work on one face of the disk record produced on the outer face thereof and said iiaps having registering openings therethrough adjacent to a lateral edge of the tag, for the purpose described.
