Description

A ril 1 1924. 1,488,727
, w. A. ALEXANDER ET AL METALLIC EDGING Filed April 1. 1922 Patented Apr. '1 1924.
UNITED STATES WILIIAILALEXANDERAND PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY D. ALEXANDER, OF HUNTINGTON PARK,
CALIFORNIA.
METALLIC EDGIN'G.
Application filed April 1,
7 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WiLLIAM A. ALEX- ANDER and HARRY D. ALEXANDER, citizens of the United States, residing at Huntington Park, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Metallic Edgings, of which the following is a s ecification.
The above and other objects of, our inven-' tion will be more fully disclosed in the following description and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
ception of the a F1g.1 represents one corner of a window or. door opening of a building showing the ap. lication of our invention thereto.
1g. 2 is a section through the same taken on the line 24 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a fragment of our improved metallic edging.
In carrying out our invention 5 represents the frame of a window which is secured in place in :the usual manner and is provided with grooves 6 on its inner and outer faces, said grooves bein ada ted to receive the edge 'of one si e we 8 of the angular edging strip 9. The edging'strip 9 is preferably' formed of sheet. metal ent at an I acute an le to form the side walls 8 and 10,
the edge of the wall 8 bein doubled over, as shown, in order to rein orce the same,
and the edge of the side wall 10 being bentat approximately a right angle to the side wall 8 to form the extension 11 ada ted to be spaced away from the inner an outer surfaces of the frame 5 when'the strips are lied"- thereto.' The side wall 10 is rov1 ed with a plurality of bondin openings 12 of any desired configuration or the replaster or stucco and to form ey therefor.
In appl7ying the ed strip to the frame, the edge is mse into e groove 6, the wall lathing 18 is then ineerte between the 1822. Serial No. 548,704.
extension 11 and the face of the frame, and both the lathing 13 and the extension 11 may be secured to the frame by means of the nails 14. After the edging strip has been applied as described, it will be obvious that the inside plastering 16 or the outside stucco material 17 may be ap lied in the usual manner and will become eyed to theedging strip when pressed throughthe openings 12 into the pocket formed between the walls 8 and 10 and the surfaces of the laths 13 and the frame 5, thus forming a durable and neat laster finish at the corners, thereby obviating the necessity of and the expense involved in applying a casing strip around the opening. Moreover by the use of theed ing strip described a very pleasing effect is produced and the plaster around the inside of the opening is protected from damage by the metallic wall 8 which may be suitably painted or decorated to conform with the finish of the wood framework.
What we claim is:
1. In combination with a grooved wall framing member, of an elongated web member, a second web member provided with bonding openings formed integral with said first named web member, said member disosed at a substantially acute angle to said first named web member, the free edge of said first named member adapted to engage the groove in the wall framing member, the second named member adapted. to be secured to a wall adjacent an opening therein, whereby when the edging is secured in position, the outer face of the first named web will form a finished surface.
2. In combination with a rooved wall framing member, of a narrowe ongated web member having a web provided with bonding openings formed integral with one of its longitudinally extending edges, said last named web being disposed at an angle to said first named web and having an attaching flange formed on its edge, t 1e free edge of said first named strip adapted to be secured in the groove of the wall framing WILLIAM A. ALEXANDER. HARRY D.
