To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLEY J. LORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Holly, in the county of Prowers and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness Attachments, of which the following is a specifica tion.

This invention is an attachment for hames and has for its object the provision of a clip which will be more durable than those heretofore generally employed. The invention also seeks to provide a device which, when in position, will be sufficiently flexible to accommodate all the movements of the animal without releasing any parts of the herness, or locking, and which will not cause the collar to bear upon and chafe the shoulder of the animal.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of one embodiment of the invention;

Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same;

Fig. 3 is a side view of another embodiment of the invention.

The hame, indicated at 1 in Fig. 1, is equipped with a draft pin 2 supported by spaced webs or bridges 3' projecting from a base 4: which is secured rigidly upon the hame. In carrying out my invention, I provide a pair of hooks 5 which are adapted to engage around the pin 2 at opposite sides of a bridge 3 so that they may be set at any desired height and will be prevented from dropping. The shanks of the hooks merge into a flat-faced body 6 which fits between the parallel ears 7 of a clip which has its body 8 integral with the ears and constructed with a transverse opening 9 to avoid unnecessary weight, the rear end of the body being in the form of a pin or bar 10 of circular cross section bridging the rear of the transverse opening. A pin or equivalent device 11, inserted through the ears 7 and the body 6, pivotally connects the hooks to the clip so that there may be relative pivotal movement in a vertical plane. Secured to the front end of the trace 12 by rivets 13, is a strap 14 which is doubled upon itself to form tangs embracing the end of the trace, and pass around the pin or bar 10. In the bight of the strap is a slot 15 which receives the lug 16 on the member 10.

In Fig. 3, I show a hame 17 provided with a draft bolt 18 secured between lugs 19 fixed upon the hame. A sleeve 20 encircles the bolt 18 and is constructed with a rearwardly extending lug 21 having flat sides to fit between the ears 7 and be pivotally held by the member 11. The clip 8 and the remaining elements shown in Fig. 3 are the same as those shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

It will be readily seen that I have provided an exceedingly simple, inexpensiveand efiicient device whereby a flexible connection between the hame and the trace is attained although the attachment will not be permitted to double upon itself and catch under the hame when the same is being applied to an animal. The connection between the hame and the trace will readily accommodate itself to the thickness of the collar without exerting upon the hame a force which will tend to pull it off the collar. The lug 16, by engaging the ends of the'slot 15, limits the movement of the trace and the strap 1& about the pin 10 so that the clip cannot fall back to the trace when the hame is swung into position on the horse.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

An attachment for hames comprising a clip having a pin at one side and spaced cars at the opposite side and being open transversely between said pin and said ears, a hame-engaging draft-transmitting member having a fiatsided end fitting between said ears and secured thereto for pivotal move ment in a vertical plane, said member being engageable with the hame for relative pivotal movement in a plane at a right angle to the plane of its movement in said ears, a strap doubled upon itself to fit freely through the transverse open portion of the clip and around the pin therein, said strap being adapted to be rigidly secured to a trace end and having a slot disposed longi tudinally of its bight at the front side there of, and a lug on the front side of the pin of the clip fitting in said slot and limiting the lateral pivotal movement of the strap by engagement with the ends of the slot.
