Description
J. LEONARD March 25 1924,
BRASSIERE ,im 1 a d w m A m W 2. or H. 0 Y m mi d B m Patented Mar. 25, 192%.
JOSEPH LEONARD, OF ALLENI'OWN, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNQR TO FIFTH AVENUE CORSET COMPANY, INC., 01 ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
nnassmnn.
Appliwtion filed May 12, 1922. Serial No. 560,296.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH LEONARD, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Allentown,
5 county of Lehigh, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Brassieres, of which the fol owin is a specification.
The ject of this invention is to provide a single garment which will combine the function ofa corset in supporting and reducing the abdomen with the function of a brassiere in confining the bust with a fabric of soft and more yielding construction and affording suitable points of attachment for the hose supporters. A further object is to rovide a construction which will afford adustment of the twoparts relative to each other.
In the accompanying sheet of drawing which formsa part of this specification the figure is a view in elevation of a brass'ire and reducing band made and combined in accordance with this broken away.
The brassiere is a soft fabric bodice 1 which com letely encircles the body at the waist and or a suflicient distance above. for suitably confining the bust. It also extends below the waist and has extensions 2, 2 for hose supporter tapes. It is fastened by a line of hooks and eyes 3, 3 at the back. Toward the sides of the front of the brassiere and below the waist are vertical lacing strips 4, 4 for connection by lacin with lacing strips 5, 5 at the sides of a re ucing band 6. The attachments of the lacing strips to the band may be through elastic sectlcns 7 7. The lacing strips attached to the brassiere are longer than the lacing strips attached to the reducing band so that the reducing band may be connected at higher or lower oints as is found desirable. The reducing and has bones 8,8 to give it the 5 necessary stiffness and when worn curves under the abdomen to the groins. The
brassiere overlies the reducing band and isv not connected directly thereto except throu h the lacing and through a depend- 59 ing ta 9 which is united to the reducing.
band by a horizontal line of stitching 10. Consequently any draft on the front "extensions to the hose supporter tapes will not tend to shift the reducing. band. Elastic sections 11, 11 are provided in the portion of invention, parts being the brassiere which overlies the reducing band and they yield to allow the band to be drawn as tight as may be necessary.
The foregoing detailed description has been given for clearness of understanding and no undue limitation should be deduced therefrom but the appended claims should be construed as broadly as permissible in view of the prior art.
What I claim is 1. In'combination, a brassiere comprising a soft fabric bodice which completely encircles the body, and a continuous stiffened I reducing band which is located under the lower portion of the front, of the'brassiere and connected for verticaladjustment at its sides to the brassiere, and-flexible means connecting the reducing band at its middle to the brassire.
2. In combination, a brassiere comprising a soft fabric bodice which completely encircles the body and isprovided with elastic sections in'the lower portion of the front, and a stiffened reducing band which is located under the lower portion of the front of the brassiere and adjustably connected at its sides-,to the brassiere beneath the elastic sections, and flexibl and permitnently connected at its mid le to the brassire. I
3. In combination, a brassiere comprising a soft fabric bodice which completely encircles the body and is provided with elastic sections in the lower- -portion of the front, and a continuous 'stifi'ened reducing band which is located under the lower portion of the front of the brassiere and 'permanently connected at its middle to the brassire, and adjustably connected at its sides to the brassire beneath the elastic sections.
4. In combination, a brassiere comprising a soft fabric bodice which com letely encircles the body, a reducing ban wh1ch is located under the lower portion of the front of the brassiere and permanently connected at its middle to the brassiere, means adjustably connecting the ends of the reducing band to the ,brassiere, and elastic sections in the lo'werportion of the front of the brassiere' -overlying the said adjustable connectin% means.
