This invention aims to provide an improvement in brake. mechanisms for looms, a general statement which can be qualified and explained in detail, only after sundry parts of a known loom construction have been explained, the ii'nprovement embodying a minute but exceedingly important structural alteration in a standard loom brake.
Figure 1 shows in side elevation, a portion oi a loom whereunto the device forming the subject matter of this application has been applied; Figure 2 is a top plan oi the structure shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is an enlarged elevation showing a. portion of the brake mechanism; Figure is a section on the line 1 i of Figure 3 and showing the part wherein the improvement is specifically claimed to be located; Figure 5 is a perspective showing the improved form of. hand lever for the brake mechanism.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is an improvement in the well known Draper loom, one term of which is shown in patent No. M81515, granted on April 2, 1907. The drawing shows a part oi the loom disclosed in the aforesaid patent, the frame appearing at 1, and a driving shaft 3 being journaled in the frame and carrying afiy wheel 6 adapted to be engaged by a brake shoe 7 mounted pivotally at 8 on the frame and connected to a first rod or link 25 having ahead 26 engaged by the short arm 27 of a lever 60, fulcruined at 28 on the frame 1 and including a long arm 29 whereon a weight is supported. it second link 36 passes slidably through the arm 29 ot the lever and is provided at its lower end with a head 3'? adapted to cooperate with the arm 29. The upper end or the link wears away the pa t 22 of the loom frame, the pivot element heroin s worn, and the link drops off the pivot element. In the device forming the subject matter of this application, the link 36 is held away from the part 22 of the loom frame, by the innermost linger 55, and the pivot element 50 is riveted securely in both of the lingers 55, so that it cannot become loose.
T claim In a loom, a frame; a driving shaft j ournaled on the frame; a brake shoe mounted movably on the frame and controlling the rotation of the shaft; a first link connected with the brake shoe; a first lever engaged with the link; a second link slidable in the first lever and provided with a head adapted to cooperate with the first lever; a bell crank lever fulcrumed on a part of the frame; and a pivot clement mounted in the A second link, the bell crank lever comprising two fingers, between which the second link extends, the provision of two fingers permitting the pivot element to be riveted at both ends, and the pivot element being so riveted, thereby to hold the pivot element securely in place, one oi? the fingers being interposed between the second link and the frame, to prevent wearing of the frame by the link.
