IMPROVEMENT IN GAS-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,755, dated March 17, 1874; application iilcd March 2, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT W. PBossER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Goose-Neck or Bracket for the Guiding and Adjusting of the Tops of Gas-Holders, of which the following; is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in arranging the roller which guides the gas-holder in its upward and downward motion in a hinged frame or bracket provided with a screw or turn-buckle, by which it may be ad justed toward or from the column or guides, as may be required.
Figure l ofthe annexed drawings, is a side elevation of my improved adjustable bracket, showing a portion of the gas-holder and guidin g column. Fig .'2 is a plan view of the same.
In the drawings, a represents a portion of the gas-holder, and b a portion of one of the guiding-columns, which are arranged around it. To the top of the gas-holder a plate, g, is bolted, to the front of which is jointed the bracket d. To the outer and upper end of the bracket the guidingroller c is journaled, and its grooved periphery embraces the track h on the column b. `At about the center of the bracket a threaded rod, f, is jointed, and to the base-plate a like rod, f', is jointed, and
they are united by a nut, e. The screw-threads upon the rods ff are, respectively, right and left hand, andthe nut c is correspondingly threaded, as in an ordinary turn-buckle.
The operation of adjusting the bracket is performed by turning the turn-buckle or nut e in one direction or the other, according as the bracket requires to be moved forward or backward, and is secured in the proper position by the lock-nut k, which is screwed down upon it.
By means of the power gained bythe screw this adjustment can be made when a, strong pressure of wind is being exerted on the opposite side of the holder.
I have shown the bracket and screw as bcing jointed to a base-plate, which is bolted to the gas-holder, but these parts may be bolted directly to the holder, if desired.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The adjusting screw or turn-buckle ff c, in combination with thehin ged frame or bracket d and roller c, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing' witnesses.
