IMPROVEMENT IN TOOL-HOLDERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,687, dated March 17, 1874; application filed January 13, 187i.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK FUNK, of Beverl y, county of Adams, in the State of Illinois, have invented an Improved Combined Pencil and Scratch-Awl Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a vertical section, Fig. 2 a plan,

k and Fig. 3 a detail view, of one form of scratch- The invention relates to carpenters toolholders; and consists in a tube, threaded internally at one end and smooth-bored at the other, the two sections of bore being made of difl'erent diameters, so as to form an annular shoulder at some intermediate point between the two ends. The object of this is to hold at one end a pencil, while the other retains a scratch-awl,

The invention will first be fully described in connection with the drawing, and then clearly pointed out in the claim.

A represents the tube which constitutes my invention, and B C, respectively, the pencil and scratch-awl, the latter provided with a threaded shank. The tube- A has the intern tl thread a, the internal shoulder a and the enlarged bore section (o The latter is made slightly smaller in diameter than the ordinary Wooden lead-pencil, which is forced thereinto and held by frictional contact, while the shoulder a prevents it from pressing against the shank of awl, or working too far into the tube. The scratch-awl G is inserted at the other end, and screwed up soas to be firmly held.

The tube may be of any desired length, while other tools may be constructed with a suitablythreaded shank end, so as to take the place of the scratch-awl.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As an article of manufacture, a carpenters tool-holder, consisting of the tube A constructed with thread a, shoulder (0 and smooth-bore section (F, to adapt it to receive the shankthreaded scratch-awl O and common pencil B,

as set forth.
