A. F. TRIMBLE BOOK 0R MAGAZINE HOLDER Filed July 9. 1923 Patente ar. 11, 1924.
ALOIN'ZO F. TRIMBLE, 0F HOGANSVILLE, GEORGIA.
BOOK 0R MAGAZINE HOLDER.
Application filed July 9,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALoNzo F. TRIMBLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hogansville, in the county of Troup and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Book orMagazine Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a device for holding books, magazines, or the like.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character which is highly convenient in use, and which may be easily applied to or removed from a book or magazine.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a bookholding device embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the same, and,
Figure 3 is a horizontal section taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a preferably rigid supporting member or bar, provided at its rear end with a hand gripping part or handle 6, as shown.
rranged near the lower end of the supporting member 5 is a holding element or rod 7, preferably L-shaped, and which is preferably formed of wire. The upper end of this holding element is bent into a-loop or head 8. The horizontal arm of the holding element is passed through a transverse opening formed in the supporting member, and then bent at a right angle, as shown at 9, and embedded in the material of the supporting member.
The supporting member 5 is provided at its forward end with an enlargement or head 10, having a recess 11, formed upon one side thereof.
The numeral 12 designates a spring clamp, as a whole, embodying a pair of jaws 13, arranged within and rigidly secured to a resilient housing 14:. This housing is slotted, at 15, receiving arms 16 therethrough, which are integral with jaws 13. One arm 16 is mounted within the recess 11, and is 1923. Serial No. 650,498.
clamped therein by means of a bolt 17, as shown.
In the use of the device, in applying a book or magazine to the same, the supporting member is held near its upper end, in the left hand, with the thumb over the outer arm 16. This arm may now be depressed and the jaws 13 opened, at which time the book or magazine is moved into proximity to the member 5, by a combined longitudinal and lateral movement. The holding element passes into the book or magazine, at its lower end, while the upper end of the magazine enters the spring clamp, and will be held thereby, when the outer arm 16 is released. The book is manipulated by grasping the hand-engaging portion 6.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim:
1. A book or magazine holding device comprising a holding member provided with a hand gripping part, a holding element secured to the holding member and extending longitudinally thereof toward the forward end of the member and adapted to be passed into the book or magazine, between the leaves thereof, and a spring clamp attached to the forward end of the holding member and having jaws extending toward the side of the holding member upon which said holding element is located.
2. A book or magazine holding device comprising a holding member provided at its rear end with a handle, a holding element arranged upon one side of the holding member and secured thereto and extending longitudinally of the same toward the forward end of said holding member, and a spring clamp having a pair of jaws extending toward the same side of the holding member upon which the holding element is mounted, said spring clamp embodying a pair of arms, one of which is attached to the supporting member and the other free.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signer ture.
ALONZO F. TRTMBLE.
