KNoB LOOK FOR rocxnrnooxs'enn'rnn LIKE;
Application filed-Jul 9,
ROBERT Tow, and Hni rnx WETSTEIN, citizens of the United States and residents of Bronx,in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knob Looks for Pocketbooks and the like, of which the following is a specification. w I
The invention pertains to what are termed knob-locks of the character employed on frames for pocket-books, hand-bags and the like, andthe invention resides in anew construction of knob-lock and in the method of producing the same from an individual blank. One purpose of the invention is to provide an extremely'durable and attractive knob-lock in one integral piece:- comprising 7 p i into efiect, the modification residingin -a a-body portion having securing lugs 'atflits lower edge, a vertical member extending upwardly from said body portion and a knob of suitable outline on the upper end of said vertical member, said vertical member at its'upper end being centrally below said knob, which, in accordance with our invention may: be either globular or of balloon shapejor' other suitableconfigura- 'tion. 7 These knob-locks or lock-knobs are used'in pairs and secured to the opposite members ofthei frame of a'pocket-book or the like and have an interengaging relation for locking them'em'bers of the frame closed together. Lock-knobs or -knob-locks for pocket-book frames are generally-speaking well known, but as heretofore constructed have a cheap orunattractive appearance, and one object ofour inventioni's to provide extremely durable knob-locks each in one integral piece and of attractive appearance.
The invention will be fullynnderstood from the detailed description; hereinafter presented, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, in which:
"Fig. 1 is a front-elevation, partly broken away and partly in section-,""o fa' handbag framefequipped with theknob-locks of ourlinventiony I j Fig. 2 is a'pers'pective view of the metal blank from which the knob-locket our invention is constructed; 1
Fig. 3 is a side elevation ofthe same after the upper portion of the;blank-has-passed through the 'first step of the process look- .ing to the formation of the spherical kneb;
' is illustrated in Fig. 3;
1920. Serial nafsagsv's.
I Fig. 4 is aniedge 'view;taken from. the right hand side ofFig. 3,0fthe same}; Fig-j. 5 is a side. elevation of our knoblock in its completed condition andas-transformed from the state'in which the blank Figm6 isan edge view, taken fromrthe right hand side of Fig. 5, of the same;
Fig. 7 is sidejelevation of a modified 'form of metal blank radap'ted to the production of our knob-lock, the modification iresiding wholly in thegs'hape of the: lower or body portion oftheblank,':the blank otherwise being the. same astlie blank shown Figl' QXandintended for the itreatment represented-in Figsfi?! 'to G-ificlusive'; V: Fig. 8 is a-fu'rther modified'form of bla' k with which our invention may be carried slight change in' the upper portion of'the: blank, from. that shown in Fig. 12, whereby an approximately balloon shape; knob may be produced "instead ofxthe sphericalf'knob shown in Figs. 5 and' 6;" 1 1 ment as produced from the blank sh0wn Fig. 10 is an edge view,'par tly broken away, of the ih'andbag frame members equipped with'the knob-locks of our invention. i i
In the drawings, a handbag equippedwith' framemembers 11, 12 of ordinary type, said members being hinged together at' 13, as usual, and equipped with a pair of knob- locks 14, 15 embodying our invention and adapted to besprung into interlocking engagement in a customary manner and as illustrated in "'Figs'. 1" and [10. The knob- locks 14, 15 are alike inconstruction and are produced from the blank shown in: Fig. Qand-in' accordance with the method of manufacture indicatedin Figs2 to 5 inclusive. r I
The blank shown in 2 comprises a "10 indicates a M... of
Fig.9 is a side 'ew of the knob-lock ele-RS a lower body portionhaving securing lugs on its lower edge and an upwardly projectclosing the surfaces of said knob, said knob at its lower side having its central portion on the upper end of said stem, whereby said knob overhangs said stem on all sides thereof.
3. The method hereinbefore described of manufacturing a knob locking device for the frames of handbags and the like, consisting in forming a sheet metal blank having an elongated body portion, lugs on the lower edge thereof, a stem projecting upwardly therefrom and a foliate head. on the upper end of said stem composed ofa middle solid body portion and substantially corresponding leaves projecting from the edges thereof and adjoining one another in series at the inner edges of the sides thereof and shaping said head and closing said leaves together in edge to edge relation to form a closed knob on and overhanging all sides of the upper end of said stem.
Signed at New York city,in the county of Kings andState of New York, this 7th day of July, A. D. 1920. 7
