Description

Dec. 11, i923. 1,47%247 G. H. CORPORON PROPELLER Original Filed NOV- 2. 1920 INVENTOR A11-ORNE' Patented Dec. 1l, 1923.
UNITED STATES PATENT Erica.
GAINES H. CORPORON, OF CITRUSGROVETEXAS.
PROPELLER.
Application led November 2, 1920, Serial No. 421,328. Renewed June 1, 1923.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, GAINEs H. CoRPoRoN, a citizen of the United States residing at Citrusgrove, in the county of Matagorda and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Propellers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention comprehends the provision of a compound propeller for aero-planes or the like, with a view of increasing the eiiiciency of the horse power of the motor, to practicall eliminate the gyroscopic .effect of a sing e propeller. e
The nature and advantages of the invention will he better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts'as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherem:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a motor showing'the propeller mechanism in section.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure l.
Referring to the drawing in detail 10 indicates the base of the motor and 1.1 the crank shaft which projects an appreciable distance beyond one end of the base' as shown. cessed as at 12 to accommodate the large beveled gear 13 which is keyed or otherwise suitably secured to the crank shaft 11. A similar gear.14 is arranged in confronting relation to the gear 13, and is keyed 0r otherwise suitably secured to a sleeve 15 which receives the crank shaft 11. Interposed between the gears 13 and 14 is a s ider `preferably having four points or en s 16, each .limb accommodating a pinion -gear 17 which meshes with both of the gears 13 and 14, The foremost propeller 18 is directlyv The base 10 of the motor is remounted or associated with the crank shaft l1 and rotates to the right with the crank shaft, whilethe rear propeller 19 is carried by the sleeve 15 and rotates in an opposite direction through the gearing arrangement as will be readily understood. Mounted upon the sleeve 15 is a casing or cover 20 for the gears 14 and 17, this casing having a hub like portion 21 surrounding the sleeve 15, while the portion of the covering or casing is recessed as at 22 to receive the gear 14 and a portion of the gears 17. The cover or casing 20 is secured to the motor base 10 in:
any suitable manner as at 23, while the limbs 16 of the spider project beyond the pinion gears 17 and are clamped between the motor base 10 and the cover 20.
VVhle it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantagesof the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limitvmyself to what is herein shown and described and that such changes may bev resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed. e
What I claimvis:
said gears, means or securing the body of the cover to the base of the motor, and said limbs of the spider being clamped between the base and said cover as described. In testimon whereof I aix my signature. AINE/S H. CORPORON.
70 In combination with a motor and crank
