Description

B. L. DALL CIGARETTE CASE Nov. 27, 1923 Filed June 5. 1922 Patented Nov. 27, 1923..
UNITED SATES BENJAMIN I. DALI, RIVER FOREST, ILLINGIB.
CIGARETTE CASE.
Application filed June 5. 1922. Serial No. 565,889.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN L. DALL, a citizen of the United States, residin at River Forest, in the county of Cook and btate of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigarette Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a case for ciga rettes and like articles, and is fully described in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case when closed, Fig. 2 i a partial similar view of the same showing the case in open position, Fig. 3 is a transverse section on'the line 3--3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the U-shaped sliding member.
The embodiment illustrated consists of a flat generally rectangular hollow case 10 .20 open at one end, to which a cover 11 is hingedly mounted upon the pin 12. A 0011 spring normally holds this cover in closed position.
A U-shaped member having sides 14 and a bottom 15 is mounted so as to slidewithin the case 10. A pin 16 is secured to each of the sides 14 and passes through a slot 17 at the side of the case.
The operator grasps the oppositely ex- 80 tending pins -16 between his thumb and finger and is thus able to move the U-shaped member in and out of the case. In the inner position the ends 14* lie in parallel with the case, thus permitting the cover 11 to close, 85 as shown in Fig. 2. As the pins 16 are moved to the left, as shown in Fig. 2, the ends 14 force the cover 11 outwardly and retain it in raised position.
The case is preferably made of a conven- 60 ient length to hold the particular article, as cigarettes, for which it is designed, so that the cigarette 18 will be exposed, as shown in Fig. 2. when theU-shaped member is moved to the outer position but will be entirely retained within the container when the U-shaped member is drawn into the case, as shown in Fig. 1.
articles comprisin While I have shown and described certain embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of man modifications. Changes, therefore, in t e-construction and arrangement may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as disclosed in the appended claims, in which it is my intention to claim all novelty inherent in my invention as broadly as possible in view of the prior art.
\Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A receptacle for cigarettes and like articles. comprising a hollow case open at one end, a cover hingedly secured thereto at the open end, a U-sha d member having its forward ends dispose in a plane parallel to the pintle of the cover hinge and slidable within said case to expose said articles, the ends of the U-shaped member impinging against said cover as the U-shaped member is moved outwardly, and means tending to close said cover.
2. A receptacle for cigarettes and like a hollow case open at one end, a cover hlngedly secured thereto at the open end, and a U-shaped member slidable within said case, to expose said articles, the ends of the U-shaped member extending in astraight line along the side to which the cover is hinged, so as to raise the cover as said member is forced outwardly.
3. A receptacle for cigarettes and like articles comprising a hollow case open at one end, a cover hingedly secured thereto at the open end, a U-shaped member slidable within said case, to expose said articles, the ends of the U-shaped member being disposed in a plane parallel to the p'intle of the cover hinge and serving to raise said cover as the U-shaped member is moved outwardly, means tending to close said cover, slots in the sides of the receptacle, and lugs attached to said member extending through said slots for operating said member.
