To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID A'rwA'riiR, a citizen of the United States of America, and airesident ofWesteld, in the county of 5 Hampden and Statevof Massachusetts, have provements in union suits such as those which form the subject of my application. for Letters Patent of the United States, filed in the United States Patent Office April 25, 1922, and serially numbered 556,492, and resides in a union suit provided with permanently aixed supporting inserts, panels, tabs, or equivalent members, the portions of the garment to which such supporting members are attached usually being reenforced by stitching or otherwise, and hose supporters of an suitable type connected with or attachab e to and detachable from said supporting members, all as hereinafter set forth. j Y A The union suits employed in this as in the other case are usually of the full-length variety in contradistinction to the kneelength variety, it being suflicient, however,

for the legs of the same to lextend even only a short distance below the knees of the wearer, andas a rule such suitsV are of the knitted or ,woven type which have' seams on the insides of the leg portions thereof. The aforesaid supporting' members or tabs are attached to the aforesaid seams or to the 4 seamed parts of the legs of the'union suit,

most generally below those portionsof said legs that cover lthe knees of the wearer.

The hose supporters may be made up in a number of different ways and out of a number of different materials, but more frequently will consist of either elastic or nonelastic tapes to which are attached buttons or their equivalents and clasps or their equivalents.

The primary object of my invention is to p-roduce a combination union suit and 'hose supporters, to the end that the separateand individual or independent hose supporters commonly used shall be dispensed with. It is difficult properly to adjust the ordinary hose supporter to the leg so that it will not bind on the one hand or be too loose on the other. With the present inventionl provision is made for supporting the hosefwithout binding the leg or producing: any discomtime-savers.

Furthermore, the hose-supporting means practically eliminate two separate articles ofwearing apparel, and consequently excel in convenience and as Y Being attached to the seams or seamed parts of the union suit the hosesupporting means are not liable to tear or unduly strain the fabric of such suit.

A further object is to provide a union suit with hose-supporting means which are comparatively simple and inexpensive, and

An ordinary knitted or woven union suit is crotch. Attached to and extending across the seams 4, below the parts of the legs 2 that coverf'the knees of the wearer, is a pair of supporting tabs 5, one of'such tabs being attached to one of such legs.

Each'tab 5 preferably vconsists of a tri-V angular piece ofrstrong andfirm fabric, and z the same is applied to one of the legs 2 of the garment over or across an intermediate portion of the seam l in such leg, on the outside of the fabric` of said garment, with the basev of such tab at the bottom. The sides of the'tab are stitched or otherwise fastened to the leg 2, as at 6-6. l There is a slot 7 in the tab 5, which slot isrparal'lel with the base or bottom edge thereof. Preferably there are oblique lines of stitching 8-8 extending downwardly from the lower corners of the tab 5 to the seamV 41 below said tab.

Each of the hose supporters hereinshown and described consists of a tape 9 which is provided at one end with a clasp 10, and

A has adj ustably connected therewith at or adliacent to the other end a buckle 11 having thereon a button l2. Both the clasp 10 and the buckle 11 are ofi the usual and Wellknown types and function conj'unctively in the usual manner.

The widths of the clasp 10 and the tape 9, of each hose supporter, are suchV as to enable said clasp to be passed through the slot r 7 in either of the tabs 5, from the inside, and

to be drawn downwardly on the outside, it

kbeing understood that the bottom edges of the tabs are free, and that said tabs are unattached, except at the side edges, to the legs 2.

When the clasp 10", of each hose supporter, is passed in the manner previously described through the slot 7 in the tab 5 from which said supporter is to be suspended, said clasp is moved. downwardly and draws with it Ythrough said slot a portionrof the tape 9, with which said clasp is connected, until the clasp and its associated buckle 11 are approximately at the same elevation, the former being in front and the latter behind. v The length of either hose supporter can be increased or decreased by making the necessary adjustment of the buckle 11 on the tape 9 of said supporter. The parts are so adjusted as to locate the buttons 12 at such distances below the tabs 5 as to enable the clasps 10 readily to enga-ge said buttons and a hose caught over the same.

ln practice, while either clasp 10 is 'disengaged from its associated button 12, the upper portion of a hose is caught over said button, the wide portion of the clasp 10 is closed over the hose and button and said clasp is pulled upwardly untilY said button with its covering 0f hose is crowded or forced into 'the' narrow portion of the clasp, the tape 9 to which are attached said clasp and the buckle 11 carrying said button meanwhile automatically adjusting itself in the tab 5 which supports the same. The hose is now held securely by the supporting elements and prevented from working downwardly on the leg. The strain ofthe hose is .Y transmitted from the lengaging button and clasp to the seanie'dv portionsof the'gar-ment leg with which the supporting tab 5-is connected, and distributed to other portions of said leg, and even tothe garment above the same. A fragment 18 of a hose is represented as being in the grasp of the hose supporter shown inV full lines in Fig. 1.

In releasing the hose from either supporter, the clasp and buckle involved are manipulated in such a manner as to disengage the clasp from the hose-covered button, after which the hose is removed from when they tapes 9 are made of elastic material. The tabs 5 do not, of course, interfere in any way with the washing of the garment, nor with the use of the garment without supporting means for the hose suspendedV from said tabs, provided such use be desired. l

A It is to be understood, as hereinbefore stated ory intimated, that other forms or types of hose supporters, may be employed, provided the same be capable of attachment toA the Vtabs 5, henceI I do not intend to' be limited 'to the particular type of the same herein shown and described; and in this Y connection it is desired to state that more Y or less change in theshape, size, and formation of the tabs and the parts of the legs of the garment to which said tabs are applied may be made, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or exceeding' the scope of what isV claimed. What l' claim as invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. As an improved article of'manufacture. a bifurcated union suit having seamsl on the insides of the legs thereof, and each leg provided with a supporting 'member for a pendi ant hose supporter, said member secured over and to the seam by stitchlng.

2. The combination, in a bifurcatedunion suit, with a supporting member for each leg, said member stitched at its side edge portions to a leg of the suit, the bottom edge of ksaid member being free, and there being a slot in saicl'meniber adjacent to said bottomdedge, of atape receivable in said slot, and provided with4 a clasp and button-provided buckle.
