Be it known that I, CrLinLns Paomrsno, a citizen of the United States, residing 'at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful mprovements in Clips for Carton Lids, of which the following is a speciication.

My invention relates to a clip or holder for carton or box lids and is especially designed for the purpose of holding the lid or top flap of a carton in an open or raised position at any desired angle to exhibit the price information and advertising data thereon, and the brand and trademark of the goods contained in the carton, such as candy ccnfections.

These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which- Figure l is a perspective view of the device in applied position,

Figure 2 is a plan view,

Figure 3 is a front elevation, and

Figure 4 is a side elevation.

Referring to the drawing in detail, 5 represents a carton or box adapted to contain the goods to be displayed and sold, and 6 is the lid or top flap upon which the advertising data and price information appear. The holder or clip generally designated at 7, consists of a section of wire or other resilient material bent to forni coils 8 and 9, the coil 9 being off-set from the coil 8, that is, made smaller in diameter' so that coil 9 will extend below coil S as indicated at 10, and facilitate the application of the gripping device to the upper edge of a side of the carton adjacent to the flap 6 as indicated in Figure l of the drawings. These coils have their top portions substantially in contact as indicated at ll and diverge downwardly to frictionally grip the side of the box or carton.

From the coil 9, the wire is olf-set laterally as indicated at 13 and then bent in a substantially opposite direction over the coils 9 and 10 as indicated at 14, to form an arm l5 and has a substantially horizontally disposed hook or open loop 16, the free end of which slants slightly forward to form a contracted throat or entrance portion 17 with the outwardly bent portion 18 at the juncture of the hook 16 with the arm '7, which receives and firmly holds the lid 6. The arin 15 is arranged to normally spring inwardly and grip the edge of the lid 6 of the box or carton and the end portion of the wire projects to forni a bill i9 which serves to `guide the lid into the upper gripping member. ln view of the angular disposition of the gripping member thus formed at the upper end of the arm 8, the material will be slightly bent or distorted so that the release of the holder will be prevented.

lllhile l have described my invention as taking a particular' forni, it will be understood that the various parts of my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence l do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that l am at liberty to make suoli changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A holder for box lids consisting of a lower gripping member and an upper' gripping ieniber, and an arin connecting said gripping members, said arni being olf-set outwardly from a plane passing between the jaws of the lower gripping nieinber and then anguarly bent and off-set inwardly to the upper gripping member.
