PATENT @FHCE.
ADOLPH FRETSGHEL, F ALMENA, WISCONSIN.
BATTERY connno'rron.
Application filed February 28, 1921. Serial No. 448,594. I
To a ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it know that I, ADOLPH FnE'rsoHnL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Almena, in the county of Barron and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Battery Connections, of .which the following is a specification.
Thi invention relates to new and useful improvements in storage batteries and more particularly to a connection therefor, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a terminal post in connection with one of the plates of the battery or the like for the ready connection thereto.
A further object of the invention resides in providing a terminal post which projects from the interior of the battery case through the top thereof to be engaged by wire and a wing nut.
Still another object of the invention resides in providing a terminal post which is internally and externally threaded to receive a particular form of nut for positive engagement therewith.
\Vith these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter referred to 530 and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.
In the accompanying drawing forming part of this application, Fig. 1 is a frag mentary section, partly in elevation illusproved invention incorporated therein;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary section, partly in elevation showing the detail structure of the battery connection;
' Fig. 3 is a. fragmentary side elevation of The end plate or electrode is designated as 4 and this plate is provided with'an up standing post 5 which projects through an opening 6 provided in the cover 3. The
trating a section of a battery with my imlower portion of this post 5 is circular in cross section, as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of i the drawing, and the upper portion thereof is externally threaded as shown at 7.
/Vhen the cover 3 is properly disposed on the casing so that the post 5 projects therethrough, washer-like connection 8 is adapted to be engaged therewith, the same being the terminal of a wire or other connection 9. This connection 8 is adapted to encircle the circular portion of the post 5 so that the threaded portion 7 projects thereabove and a wing nut 9, internally threaded is adapted to be engaged with the threaded end '7' of said post whereby to secure the wire connection in engagement with the terminal.
In order to permanently secure the nut, the post and the wire connection together and provide a means of positive circuit con nection, the terminal post 5 is provided with a threaded and elongated central socket 10 while the nut 9 is arovided with a central, elongated external y threaded stem 11. Through this medium the nut is adapted to be securely engaged to the post for the purpose desired and although I have shown but asingle post, as many may be provided as desired or necessary. The nut 9 is prefeiably provided with indicia thereon to designate positive or negative connections.
While I have described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth,
it is obvious that various changes inform, proportion and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
What I claim is In a device of the class described, a battery plate provided at its upper edge with an integral terminal post, said post being interio rly and exteriorly threaded, a connection for said post, and a. wing nut interior- .iy threaded for engagement with the externally threaded portion of the post, said nut having a central elongated and threaded stem formed thereon for engagement with the interiorly threaded portion of said terminal post.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
