lin the printing art it frequently happens that only a portion or portions of a freshly printed sheet requires the use of an anti-oftsetting medium, as for instance where only a portion or portions of the sheet are Vprii'iited 355 or where only a portion or portions ot the sheet are heavily printed and the balance ot the sheet lightly printed. Slip sheets must be substantially the size of the printed sheets and the slip sheets are not only expensive 2o but require complicated machinery for properly introducing thein between and separating themfroin the' printed sheets; Where anti-odset material has been used heretofore, it has been applied to the entire sheet .and not only results in a considerable expense, lout also requires the use of complicated apparatus for removing the surplus material from the sheets. p
The object of my invention therefore is to provide a novel means for and method of treating freshly printed sheets especially color sheets, by applying an anti-odset material in liquid or powder form onto a predetermined portion or portions of the freshly printed sheet to prevent the portion or portions of the sheet from pdsetting.
My invention includes meanswherehy predetermined' heavily printed portions, of the freshly printed sheets' are treated to` preventl odset, leaving the lightly printed'or unprinted portions o'f the sheet untreated.
My invention more particularly includes providing a member with one oriinore relief Y portions corresponding in outline to and 'adapted to register with a predetermined heavily printed portion or portions of the freshly' rinted sheet, means being employed for applyin the anti-odsetF material in liquid or Ww er form to the said relief porttion or portions for transfer therehy onto said predetermined heavily printed portion or portions oit the sheet.

@ne way of providing the ycylinder ML with a relief portion or yportions would he t0 wrap the proof 15 around the cylinderla in registry with the freshly printed sheet and then build up the required portions of the prooi to form reliefs, such as 16 and 17, corresponding in outline to the portions of the freshly printed sheet to which it is :j desired to apply the anti-odset material.

bearings 21 so that it may be set in proper adjustment to both the roll 19 and the relief form carried by the cylinder 14. It may be desirable to use a blade 22 for regulating the supply of the anti-offset material from i the cylinder 19 to the cylinder 20.
From the above description it will be seen that by the use of my invention Iam enabled to apply anti-offset material in liquid or powder form to that portion or portions only of the freshly printed sheet which reuire treatment to prevent offset in the delivery of the sheet. This arrangement results in a considerable saving of the antioffset material, which is of great importance, and also eliminates the necessity of utilizing complicated and expensive machinery for removing excess anti-offset material from the freshly printed sheet.
,Thisinventionis particularly well adaptedfor use in connection' with color work where certain portions of the sheet are provided with much heavier application of the color than other 4portions thereof, said heavier portions being the ones which require treatment for preventing offset.
It-is evident that. various changes may be made in the construction, form and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, hence, I do not wish to limit myself to the particular embodiment herein shown and described, but
1. Sheet printing mechanism and means coacting therewith for applying anti-offset material onto predetermined freshly printed portions only of the sheets.
2. Sheet printing mechanism and means coacting therewith for applying anti-offset material onto freshly heavily printed portions only of the sheets.
3. An impression cylinder, one or more v form cylinders coacting therewith to print sheets7 and means coacting with the impression cylinder for-applying anti-offset material onto predetermined portions only of the sheets.
4f. An impression cylinder, one or more form cylinders coacting therewith to print sheets, and means coacting with the impression cylinder for applying anti-offset material onto predetermined heavily printed portions only lof the sheets.
5. An impression cylinder, one or mor form cylinders coacting therewith to print a sheet, a cylinder eoactiiig with the impression cylinder and having a relief portion corresponding in outline to and in registry with the freshly printed portion of the sheet to which the anti-offset material is to be applied, and means for applying the antioffset material onto said relief portion for transfer thereby onto the sheet.
6. An impression cylinder, one or more form cylinders coacting therewith to print a sheet, a cylinder coacting with the impression cylinder and having a proof applied thereto in registry with the freshly printed sheet, said proof having a relief portion corresponding in outline to that portion of the sheet to which the anti-offset material is to be applied, and mea-ns for applying the anti-offset material onto said relief pory tion for transfer thereby onto the sheet.
7.*The method of preventing offset of freshly printed sheets consisting in applying anti-offset material onto predetermined portions only of the sheets. J
8. The method of preventing offset of freshly printed sheets consisting in applying anti-offset material onto predetermined heavily printed portions only of the sheets.

The method of preventing offset of freshly printed sheets comprising, producing a member having a relief portion corresponding to and in registry with a predetermined portion of the sheet, applying anti-offset material to the relief portion, and transferring the anti-offset material onto the corresponding portion of the sheet.
