Application filed February 27, 1923. seri l nbi 621,505.
The main objectsof this invention are to W provide an improved holder devicefwhi'ch may be adapted as ah'at hanger or as a -1 ;ey-' ring or holder for keys, car-checks or other articles, and onewhich may be engaged with different parts of the garment as with the edge of a pocket elf-button hole, or with a button. I
A. further object is to -provide a; device having these "advantages whichissimple and economical to manufacture and to ma, nipulate. r
Objects pertaining to details and economies of the invention will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of the invention isclearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forminga partof this application, in which: I
'Fig. I is a perspective view of my improved holder device represented as engaged with the pocket of a coat and supporting hat.
Fig. 11 is an elevation of my improved holder. V
Fig. 111 is an edge view of my improved holder.
Fig. IV is a detail view showing my improved holder employed as a holder for keys and car-checks, the holder being shown removed therefrom.
Fig. V is an elevation showing my proved holder engaged with a button.
Fig. V1 is a fragmentary view showing another method of using my improved holder.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout all of the views. Referring to the drawing, my improved holder comprises an annular split body 1 of spring wireterminating at one end in the arm :2; which is disposed across the body pro open to permit the articles to be engaged or combination of an annular split body memjecting beyond the same and coacting therewith to provide a spring clasp which may be engaged'with the-edge of a pocket, in a button hole of a garment or other support; The other end of the body member termi-.
A link Sis engaged with the body member and carries the clasp 9 which is swiv elled thereto.
This clasp is adapted to be engaged'with a hatflthereby adapting my holder'as a hat holder. This is very desirable where, for instance, a coat is hung up in'a public place, the hat may be attached thereto, and it will be found desirable in many other circumstances.
The holder is also desirable for use of night watchmen carrying keys and in other cases where it is desired that. they shall be readily accessible and at the same time socurely retained.
In Fig. VI. I show the clasp as engaged with the edge of the pocket 10, the holder being retained within the pocket the clasp. 7
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let- Y ters Patent is: A 1. In a device of the class described, the
' ton-or the like, the end of said arm being turned laterally, the hook end being inserted through the bight of the arm'and the hookbeing engageable' therewith under spring tension, whereby the body member may be prising an annular split body member of spring material terminating at one end in "an outwardly offset inwardly facing hook and at the other end in an arm' disposed across the body member and coacting therewith to provide a spring clasp adapted for engagement witha garment or with a button or the like, the end of'said arm being turned laterally, the hook end being inserted through the bight-of thearm and the hook being engageable therewith under spring tension, whereby the body member may be opened to articles, such as keys, or for the engagement with a button-hole or the like,
8. A device of the class described comprising an annular split body member of'spring material terminating atone end in an outwardly offset inwardly faoin'ghook and at the other end in an arm disposed across the body member and coacting therewith. to provide a spring clasp adapted for engagement with a garment or with a button or the like, the hook end being inserted through the a hook and at the other end in an arm, disposed across the body member and coacting therewith to provide a spring clasp, the hook end being adapted to be inserted through the bight of the arm and the hook detachably engaged under spring tension, alink on said body member, and a, clasp swivelled on said link. v
' 5. A device of the class described comprising an annular split body member of spring material terminating at one end in a hook U and at the other end in an arm disposed across the body member and coacting therewith to provide aspring clasp, the hook end being adapted to.- be
engaged under spring tension.
In witness whereof, I have my hand and seal. v 1 CHARLES O. HAYWARD. [L.:S.]
