In these drawings the numeral52 designates a contact breaker base plate" which is secured to a contact breaker shaft 5-1 in the usual manner by acentral screw 66 which bears upon and passes through an insulated metal block' 67 mounted on the said base plate 52. This screw 66 is axially disposed within and insulated from the contact breaker shaft 51, and at itsinner end said screw engages with a'fixed insulated member connected with the primary winding of the armature of the machine. The insulated metalblock 67 is accordingly electrically connected with the outer end of the primary winding at all times. Said insulated block 67 is constructed with two radial branches 72 which are disposed on opposite sides of a diametral plane with which said branches make equal angles.

- It is imperative for efiicient operation of described can a contact breaker that the fibre wiper 77 should trail behind or follow the pivot 7-1l ot the contact breaker lever 76 during rotation. The lever "2'6 having no lateral projections and being synnne rically supported on the bush 75 may be removed from the pivot pin 74: and turned over so as to bring its respective arrnsint'o precisely similar positions on opposite sides of the diametral plane passing through the pivot pin 74 and the wringsupporting lug 83. The spring s4 is adjusted to extend from the opposite side of the lug 83 and the screw 80 bearing, the insulated contact 79 is transferred to the hole 81 in the other branch 72 of the insulated block 67.
It will. be observed that the various parts after reversal and transference, take up exactly similar positions onthe opposite sides of the diainetral plane ll'lGlllZlOlltXl above. It will be obvious to persons skilled in the art, that a contact breaker constructed in the i manner above described has a considerable advantages over the usual type of contact breaker, for in addition to the ease with which it may be altered to operate in either direction, it simplifies manufacture in that only one contact ln'eaker required instead of two suited respectively to clockwise and anticlockwise directions of rotation.
I claim In a magneto, a reversible contact breaker having a base plate, a substantially V-shaped insulated block concentrically mounted on the base plate, a pivot on the base plate on the opposite side of the axis thereot to that on which the radial branches are situatedand positioned in a dian'ictral plane which passes between the radial in'anches oil the V-shaped block, an insulating washer positioned around the pivot and bearing on the base plate, a eup-shaped insulating bushing covering the exposed portion of the pivot, said bushing being shouldered on its exterior, a reversible contact carrying lever mounted on the reduced portion ol said bushing and aihmted to oscillate trrcly tl'iereabout, means for securing a (Ofltrfl'll to either oi. the radial branches of the V-shaped block, a fixinq screw for securing the V- shaped block in place, and a spring rigidly secured at one end by the tiring srr -v-r and having" its other end bearing on the cup shaped bushing; to maintain said bushing and contact carrying lever in position. i
