' nooncnnox.
Application filed September 23, 1922. Serial No. 590,154.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. SILBER- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maywood, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Doorchecks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a door check and has for its primary object the construction of a check that may be very conveniently arranged in place and will positively check the closing of a door. 7
Another object of the invention is the provision of a door check of simple construction composed of very few parts which may be quickly connected.
A feature of my invention is the novel manner of mounting the spring and connecting the resilient tip to the stem.
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the check.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view.
Fig. 4 is a plan View showing the partsin position at right angles to Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating'one of the many constructions of my invention the numeral 1 designates an air piston in its entirety consisting of a barrel 2, and piston 3, and the stem 4. A check valve 5 communicates with one end portion of the barrel to one side of the piston and by adjusting the same the rapidity of the escapage of air from the barrel may be regulated thereby controlling the travel of the piston 3 in one direction. nates an attaching plate having one end formed with a stop 7; A clip 8 is secured around the barrel andhas ivotal connec tion with the plate 6 as ind that the plate may be adjusted relative to the barrel or the check easily thrown into operative or inoperative position. The stem 4 is provided with a reduced end 10 leaving a shoulder 11 at the juncture thereof with The numeral 6 desig icated at 9 so the body of the stem. A washer 12 abuts the shoulder and a resilient tip 13 is arranged on the reduced end and abuts the washer.
A hole 14: is formed transversely of the stem to receive one end of a bowed spring 15 the other end of which is soldered to the barrel as indicated at 16. To increase the resiliency of the spring coils 17 are arranged at an intermediate point of the spring. A single screw 18 is mounted in the reduced end of the stem and the head portion holds the resilient tip in place while the end of the screw binds against the end 19 of the spring that is passed through the hole 1 1. Thus it will be seen that in a simple manner all parts are, eifectively connected together Without in any way interfering with the efficiency of the device.
It will also be noted that by simply loosening the screw 18 both the tip and the spring may be removed.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and, therefore, I do not 7 desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is: I
1. A door check comprising a barrel, a check valve in communication with one end of the barrel, a plunger operating therein, a stem connected to the plunger and extending beyond one end of the barrel, a resilient tip onthe end of the stem, a spring having one end connected with the barrel and the other end passed through said stem, and a single screw for securing the tip and end of the spring to the stem.
'2. In combination an air piston having its stem reduced and formed with a vertical hole adjacent the reduced end, a resilient tip on said reduced end, and abowed spring having one end soldered to the piston and its other end passed through said hole.
3. In combination an air piston havin its stem reduced and formed with a vertica hole adjacent the reduced end, a resilient tip on said reduced end, a bowed spring having one end soldered to the piston and stem for securing said tip in position and binding against that end of the spring e passed through the stem.
7 4. In a device of the characterdescribed,
' a stern having a hole passed through the stem, a resilient tip for the stem, a spring having a portion passed through said hole, and a single screw mounted in the stem for 1 securing the tip and said portion of'the spring lIl positlon.
In testimony whereof Iaffix my signature; e GHARLE$ E ;SILB-ER1VIAN.- V
