SPIDER FOR COTTON CLEANERS.

provements in Spiders for Cotton Cleaners. of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to cotton cleaning machines. and has particular application to an attachment therefor in the nature of a spider mounted for rotation. and desigped to burst the burrs and fiufi the cotton. without cutting the burrs to pieces.

The nature and advantages of the inven tion will he better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing. the invention residing in the construction. combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawing forming part of this ap plication. like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view through the cotton cleaning machine. show ing the application of the invention.

Figure 2 is a detail view of the spider.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Figure 1.

Referring to the drawing in detail, A in dicates generally the spider forming the subject matter of the present invention, the spider being designed for use in conjunction with a cotton cleaning machine and arranged in relation to the machine in a manner illustrated in Figure 1. The spider includes a hub 10, and a plurality of arms 11. the latter radiating from the hub and of any desired length. The spider is mounted 46 upon the shaft 12 for rotation, and each arm is rounded at its front as at 13 and based by means of a thin. tapered web 14 as illustrated. The webs terminate short of the outer ends of the arms 11, and are referably formed integral therewith. i s the spider is rotated. the rounded surfaces oi the arms 11 break up the bolls, and flutl' the cotton without injuring the burrs. By the elimination of any sharp edges on the arms 50 of the spider, which are brought into contact with the cotton. bolls can be hurst without being out to pieces.

While it is believed that from. the foregoing description, the nature and advan- 65 tages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.

hat I claim is A spider of the character described comprisin a hub. webs radiating from the hub and disposed at an angle thereto and with relation to each other, an arm supported by one edge oi said web. with the latter merging into the arm adjacent the outer end thereof. the corresponding inner extremities of said arms terminating in spaced relation to the hub and supported at the point of juncture between the adjacent webs.
