nnwann BEAR, or new YORK, 1v. Y.
CLOTHESLINE FASTENER.
Application filed January 12, 1822. Serial No. 528,699.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD BEAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bronx, county of Bronx and State or": New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothesline Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
. This invention relates to improvements in clothes line fasteners, particularly to a device for connecting the loose ends of a clothes line.
It is the principal object of the invention to provide a device or clamp of this cl1aracter which is simple and inexpensive to construct and which effectively prevents the parting of a line if the same is accidentally dropped while a person is occupied to hang wash on the line or remove it therefrom.
A further object of the invention is the provision ofadevice of this character allowing an instantaneous separation of the line, if desired. 7,
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device o1 this character which allowsa clamping 01"- the line in order to hold it taut under all circumstances.
These and other ObJBClJS and advantages of my device will becdrne more fully known asthe description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this invention,
Figure 1 shows a oeviee constructed according to the present invention in perspective View attached to a clothes line.
Figure 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the device on line 22 of Figure Figure 3 is an end View of the device.
As shown, to the two posts 10 and 11, or similar supporting means, hooks l2 and 13 are secured to which are attached the pulleys let and 15 by means of the customary hangers 16 and 17. A rope or clothes line 18 is guided 'over the pulleys, and one of its ends, 19 is guided through a sleeve formed by the body 20 of the device, around a hook element 23 on the bottom of the sleeve and over the upper edge of a hook element 24: at the re duced end of said sleeve across the upper face of said sleeve and under a hook element 22. The other end of said line is guided through an opening 25 ot' a crown 21 at the end of said sleeve and formed below said crown into a knot 25. The sleeve is hollow as indicated at 26 and has a reduced front part 26'.
The operation of the device'will be clear from above de cription without further explanation, the end 19 may also be provided with a knot in order to prevent a slipping off of the line if the operator is interrupted during the hanging of wash or'the taking in of clothes or wash, so that he simply may drop the line and device without any danger of let the wash fall to the ground.
As shown one end of the clothes line is passed through opening 25 from the rear and is'then formed into the knot 25 in order to securely hold this end attached to the clamp. The other end of the clothes line is passed through opening 26 of the sleeve from the front to the rear and is then guided through the lower hook element 23 where after it is guided over the hook element 24 through the same and turned on itself and over the hack of sleeve 20 to the outer lateral hook 22 the manner indicated in Figure ,1. It will be clear that the end 19 of the line can be loosened to move the line over the pulleys and to hang the wash thereon and; to remove the same from the line, and if a knot'is formed atthe outer free end ot line 19 the line and clamp may he dropped any time without causing parting of the ends and causing the wash to drop onto he floor. it will be clear that changes may be made the general arrangement of my dc ice an; in the construction of the minor details thereof without departing from the scope and spirit of my invention.
l/Vhat I claim as new and desire by Letters Patent is t A. clothes line clamp comprising body part having a reduced end, a sleeve for ed at the end of said body oppositely disposed to saio. reduced part,a lower hook ori said sleeve, a perforated crown on the reduwl end of sair clan l ted to allow the easoi. to he knotted ben, two lateral hook portions said crown for guiding the free end of the line pass d through said sleeve around said lower hoolr, from below over one or" the said lateral hooks and over the upper face of body. through the other of said lateral hooks, substantially as describedand for the purpose set forth.
EDWARD BEAR.
