GLOVE FORM.

tion of rubber or similar-vulcanizable substance; preferably rubber dissolved in naphtha or other appropriate solvent and athin. coating of rubber is thus deposited on the form. .A sufficient time is allowed for the rubber solution to congeal, whereupon it is again dipped into the solution and the process is repeated until a body of the desired thickness isbuilt up. These forms are preferably formedof glazed porcelain or similar material and are ordinarily hollow and pro-i vided with a socket into which a wooden.-
plug or handle is inserted to provide means whereby the form may be manipulated. This method of fastening the form to a suitable handle has proven very unsatisfactory. The article mustcbe vulcanized on the form and when the acid cure is used the, plug shrinks and soon becomes loose in the form and when the article is subjected to steam vulcanization,-the plug swells and breaks the form. 1 I g It is therefore an object of this invention 1 .to provide ahollow glove form. having a wall in the wrist end thereof and having openingsxin said walls and to thusprovide a form having means wherebya suitable handle may be easily and firmly attached thereto. I
' A further object of the invention has ref- I erence'to a form employed in the manuthereto.
- facture of rubber gloves and like, articles wherei'n the form is of hollow construction, the wrist portion of. the form carrying an inwardly directed flange at the open end thereof for cooperation;- with a lifting r handling device detachably connected iVith the above generahobjects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood from the following detailed description, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to-be hereinafter set forth in detail and'then claimed.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application" and to which reference is had by like reference characters which are employed to designate corresponding parts. throughout the several views Figure lris a perspective view of a form constructed in accordance with the present invention for employment in the manufacture of rubber gloves by the dipping process. Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional View taken on line 22 of Figure 1 with the detachable manipulating means connected theret0.- i Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the. wrist portion of a form having an end wall, the central portion of I which is cut away to form an inwardly directed circumferentially extending flange.
Figure 4 is a similar perspective view showing the end wall provided with two openings therein. 7
Figure 5 is a perspective view of handle and also showing means of attaching the same to the form. i
Briefly described, the present invention has for its main object to provide a convenient attaching means whereby a handle or lifting device may be secured to a form particularly employed in the manufacture of rubber gloves and the like. The glove form disclosed in this application is of hollow construction and has a relatively long wrist or forearm section provided at its inner end with an en'd wall. The end wall has an opening .or openings adapted to permit the insertion of suitable means whereby ahandle or manipulating device may be secured to the end wall. The manipulating device shown comprises a flat strap adapted to overlie the opening in the 'end wall and having one end turned back in spaced relation to itself to form a hook like handle adapted for attachment to a suitable dipping frame or other device for supporting a plurality of glove forms during the dipping operation.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, there is illustrated a hol- "low form designed for molding rubber gloves, including the hand portion. 1, and a wrist or forearm portion 2 which gradually increases in cross sectional area toward the inner end thereof as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2. The form 2 is provided at its wrist end with an end wall 3 which is provided with an elongated slot or opening 4. The form is constructed of porcelain or similar material and has a glazed exterior surface.
The handle employed in manipulating the form during the dipping process is shown more clearly in Figures 2 and 5, there being provided the strap 5 above described.
The strap 5 is fixed to the form by means of a bolt 6 which extends through a suitable aperture in an elongated plate 7 with the threaded end of the bolt 6 projecting through a-suitable hole in the strap 5 to which it is secured by means of the nut 8.
In securing the handle 5 to the form, the
plate 7 is received in the elongated slot 4 of the end 'wall 3v and the plate 7 is subse quently turned to position it transversely of the slot 4 with the ends thereof engaging the inner face of the wall 3 to retain the handle on the open end of the form as. clearly shown, in Figure 2. The nut 8 is elongated slot 4, whereupon the handle may be removed from the form,
\Vhile I have described my improved form as Provided with an end wall 3 provided with a slot 4 into which suitable fastening means may be inserted for attachment to said wall and if desired, the end wall 3 may be provided with two or more slots or openings 4 as shown in Figure 4 which may be of any desired configuration which will permit the entrance of fastening means for securing a handle to said flange 3,
. In the adaptation of the invention shown 1n Figure 3, the end wall 3 may be termed as inwardly directed circumferentially ex-- tendlng fiange which defines an elongated i slot. 4.
Having thus stated the objects of the invehtion and described the same'in detail, what I claim as new and desire to' secure by Letters-Patent is i 1. A hollow glove form composed of one piece of vitreous material and provided with an end wall at its wrist end.
2. A hollow glove form of vitreous material having an end wall formed integrally therewith at the /arm end thereof and an opening, in said wall. i
3. In combination, a hollow glove form having an end wall, an opening in said Wall, a handle for said form and means insertable in said opening toiengage the said wall to secure said handle to said form.
l. A hollow glove form of the class 'described having an end wall provided with an elongated slot. a plateadapted to be positioned in said form transversely of said slot and a handle adjustably secured to said plate.
5. In a device of the class described, the combination with a glove form, having an end wall formed integrally therewith,. an opening in said 'wall and means insert-able within said opening, said means adapted to engage said wall to support said form.
6. In a device of the class described, in
combination a hollow glove form having an end wall formed integrally therewith, an opening in said end wall and a handle for said form, said handle having attaching means insertable in said opening for detaehably securing said handle to the form.
7. In a device of the class described, in combination a hollow glove form having an end wall at the arm end thereof, said end wall provided with an elongated opening, a plate adapted to register in said opening and be positioned transversely thereof within the form, a handle adapted to cover said openmg, a centrally positioned hole in sald plate, a similar hole 1n said handle and means 1nsertable insaid holes to clamp the end wall between the handleand saidplate.
8. In combination, a hollow glove form composed of one piece of vitreous material and having an integrally formedwall at the i arm end thereof, an opening in said wall, a handle and means insertable in said opening to engage the inner side of said wall to secure the handle to said form.
. 9. In combiriatioma hollow vitreous form having an integrally formed end wall, a handle and means to attach said handle to said wall. I
In testimonywhereof I have hereunto set my hand.
