ARNIE O. ALSAG'ER, OF WILLOW CREEK TOWNSHIP, LEE COUNTY, ILLINOIS.
COMB CLEANER.
Application filed December 31, 1921. Serial No. 526,379.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, ARM; 0. ALSAGER, a citizen of the United States, residing in Willow Creek Township, in the county of Lee and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Comb Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to comb cleaners, and an object of the invention is to provide a comb cleaner which is simple in construction and may be manufactured for a relatively low cost, which comb cleaner is constructed so as to be adaptable, with slight alterations for cleaning combs with wide or narrow teeth.
The improved comb cleaner comprises a pair of carrying members each provided with a plurality of string engaging teeth to facilitate the suspending of string between the members, taut, for engagement between the teeth of a comb for cleaning the same.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the improved comb cleaner.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan of the comb cleaner showing the strings adjusted for cleaning a comb having widely spaced teeth.
Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section on the line 3-3 of Fig; 1.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of one of the carrier plates.
Fig. 5 is a View of the cord or string used in the comb cleaner.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the improved comb cleaner comprises carrier plates 1 and 2 which are formed of sheet metal any suitable thickness or gang and which are substantially semicircular shaped in plan, being provided with openings 3 which are adapted to engage over a support as shown at 4 for supporting one end of the comb cleaner. The plates 1 and 2 have a plurality of laterally spaced tongues 5 formed thereon providing substantially dove tailed shaped recesses 6, in each plate,
which are connected by the slot 7 as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 4 of the drawings. The slots 7 have enlargements formed thereon to permit the insertion of the ends of the cords 9 into the slot for engagement in the recesses 6. Then the improved comb cleaner is used for cleaning a comb having fine teeth, the cords or strings 9 are used singly and the looped and connected ends of the cords are passed about one of the tongues 5 on each of the blades 1 and 2 as shown in Fig. l of the drawings and one of the plates 1 or 2 is attached to a support while the other is gripped firmly with the thumb and index finger of the user holding the strings 9 taut. The user then passes the comb back and forth over the strings which removes any foreign substances from the teeth. In case the comb to be cleaned has widely spaced or large teeth, the looped and tied ends of the strings or cords 9 are passed about two adjacent teeth 5, two cords being used as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, providing a double thickness of cord or string for engagement between the comb teeth. If the number of recesses 6 and teeth 5 are such that the double spacing of the strings will not come out evenly it is to be understood that a single string may be used in the last recess and tongue.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in other manners and the parts associated in other relations and, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
As a new article of manufacture, a comb cleaner comprising a pair of carrier plates each having a transverse slot formed therein, and a plurality of recesses projecting to one side from said slots and forming tongues, and a plurality of strings engaged in said recesses and about said tongues and extending from one carrying member to the other, said. recesses being dove tail in shape having their wide ends remote from said slots, said carrying members provided with enlargements on said transverse slots to facilitate the insertion of the strings through the slots and about said tongues.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ARNE O. ALSAGER.
