Be it known that we, yHAROLD AL'roN Davis and PAUL Sims Nnwoorrrnn, citizens of the United States, residing at Fostoria, -in
the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elevatorl Hoists, of which the following is a specification.
vThis invention relates to elevator hoists and is especially adapted for use in yconnection with rope elevators for the purpose of raising and lowering hand elevators, electrically.
l/Vith the foregoing and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of'our invention is better understood, the saine consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangen'ent of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of our invention and in which drawings like parts'are designated by like reference characters throughout the several views, A represents the elevator shaft, l the elevator and C our improved hoist or attachment, as a whole. This attachment comprises a. horizontal frame 1 consisting of a pair of corresponding laterally spaced angie bars 2` one end, as 3, of which frame is bolted to the elevator frame and the op josite end of whichis bolted, as at e, to the vertical depending'portions 5 of a pair of corresponding laterallyT spaced castings 6 formed with the forked upper end portions 7 ,the tines or arms 8 of which are recessed, as at 9, to receive the bearings for the shaft 10.
This shaft is disposed in a horizontal plane above and in parallel relation with the supporting frame 1 and is provided at one end with a worm 11 mounted thereon between the inner edges of the arms 8 of the tor is `tioned between the arms of the forked with the teeth of the main worm shaft 10 by the coupling 20. When thehandle 22 of the switch is released it automatically returns to `neutral position. rThe castings are provided on their outer faces rwith the reinforcing ribs 24, and it will be apparent that the arrangement of the several parts of our attachment is such that the motor and drive shaft areheld in perfecty alignment while lthe bearings for the shafty 13 other; also, `that the worm 11 being posilupper end portions of the castings will holdthe drive shaft 10 against any longitudinal play ork movement. v Y
are also held in alignment with each I' F rom the foregoing description vtaken in connection with the drawings, itis thought thatvthe construction, operation and advantages of our invention will be thoroughly understood without requiring a more eXtended explanation.
Having described our invention, what we l claim as new and desire toy secure by Letters Patent, is v e v ln combination with a beam, substantially Y-shaped brackets mounted thereon and at thel opposite sides thereof, a shaft journaled between the upper branches of the brackets and carryingA a worm which isv located between the branches, a shaft jo'urnaled in the lower portions of the brackets anda worm wheel mounted upon the last mentioned shaft and having a peripheral portion meshingwith the worm. p' Y In testimony whereof we affix our sig-ua'- tures.
